"It's been a hell of a ride," Garoppolo said to the 49ers fans. "I love you guys. See ya."

An exact timeline for a potential Garoppolo trade remains to be seen, but there are plenty of reasons to believe it will be a priority to be done by the time the new league year starts on March 16. Garoppolo is scheduled to count $26.905 million against San Francisco's salary cap in 2022. Moving on from him would save the team $25.505 million with just $1.4 million in dead money remaining from the signing bonus on the contract he signed in 2017.

Any place Garoppolo lands would still have to take on more than $25 million in cap charges, which is why he would likely be in line for a contract extension wherever he is traded. And though Garoppolo technically still has a no-trade clause, it expires when the new league year begins, which is also when any trade could officially be completed.

The speculation on where Garoppolo lands next will kick into overdrive in the coming weeks. There is no shortage of teams -- Pittsburgh, Washington, New Orleans, Denver and Tampa Bay, among others -- who figure to be in the market for a quarterback.

Exactly. As long as it’s later picks I don’t want to trade for Jimmy G especially if Winston makes a comeback

I mean, that dude can’t even be good with Shanahan. If we had Payton still, maybe, but any coach we hire will undoubtedly be less of a QB guy than Shanny. Jimmy G would be a disaster here.

You prefer who? It isn't exactly like there's a lot of good choices. I certainly prefer Winston, but we may not can get him.

No thanks. It’s not like he’s been playing somewhere that lacks weapons around him and a good D backing him up

Yeah I don't know who is gonna trade for that contract unless the 49ers eat a huge chunk. Maybe Carolina might be dumb enough. Think he gets released.

Look getting JG when he is the best QB left is one thing.

But trading picks for his arse is a non starter for me.

"Expecting to be traded"

Dude is gonna be cut with a quickness. Not even retarded teams would take him on at $25 mil next year

No reason to cut him...zero.

Teams are desperate for QB's in a weak QB year.

Someone will trade for him.

He is a decent qb who is just limited. Still a starter in this league.

He is smart and can lead a team.

He went 31-14 in SF, went to a SB and NFCCG.

67.7% passer (Winston 61.2%)
5% TD (Winston 5%)
2.9% INT (Winston 3.3%)

If people think the Saints can win the big one with a Jameis and in the same breath think Jimmy G stinks, well, ya might have it twisted.

The main qualm with acquiring a Jimmy G is the draft capital that will have to go to SF. We cannot afford to do that
