Yes, especially when he has the players to execute the play.

He’s probably 90 percent effective as a game manager, which is excellent. I just wish he’d get rid of those 1-2 completely WTF play calls, reply challenges, and wasted time outs each game.

You have to realize a lot of SP plays are testing the defense to find an opportunity to exploit. He does a TON of this by watching film, but he is doing this with every play. When he finds a chink in the armor he exploits the frick out of it like no other. He also gets cute sometimes, but he consistently wins even when we are relying heavily on the "next man up"

There has been so many examples of guys who have come through here that never were able to truly learn the offense. Spiller and Fleener are notorious for that.

But to answer the question, is he a good play caller? Yes, one of, if not the best.

Does he have his faults? Yes

Nah, there was some guy just last week on tRant that compared Payton and Coach O because they each only won one title. Even said Payton could learn a thing or two from Eddie O about avoiding controversy because Payton got suspended in 2012. I seriously couldn't believe what I was reading.
