About 7 to 8 times a year Reggie makes a good play. About 452 times a year Reggie dances in one spot and then gets tackled for no gain or a loss of yards. It is sad that the fans only remeber those 7 or 8 times a year. Reggie will not cut his salary to what he is worth (1 mil at most 2 mil.) You can find a speed back that is not afraid to hit the hole instead of wanting to be on dancing with the stars.

I keep Brown over Bushrod any day of the week.If Reggie does not restructure trade or cut him loose. That money can be used for 2-3 players to help continue the process of staying ahead of the big contracts for aging players, which in my mind is the death of pro teams.

have one, and it's on reality and reason

Your posts sound like a reggie hater

nope, just a Reggie for 8mil a year hater

quote:

How much was reggie paid per year so far?

too much for his production

quote:

If it has been 8million a year then why not keep it them same and try to keep this SUPER BOWL champion team intact?

because we have too many FA's to sign, and it's not a good move to have to let them leave in order to keep an overpaid role player. Good role player? yes. but overpaid nonetheless.

quote:

keep this SUPER BOWL champion team intact?

that would be ideal, but history shows this is near impossible. like I said, my grip is on reality, not Madden '10

quote:

I dont really know how the payroll and how everything fits together in a NFL organization but my guess is that the people paid to make those decisions will come through perfectly for the saints

I agree, and whatever decision they make I will support. I am stating what I think they will do, but I am not the head brass and they do know best.

quote:

they have done pretty well for us here in recent history eh??

yup, they sure have.

so, anymore questions/concerns?

hey MDS, how much is jones-drew making next season? LOL

LINK

4/15/2009: Signed a five-year, $30.95 million contract. The deal contains $17.5 million guaranteed, including a $9 million signing bonus and Jones-Drew's base salaries in years one and two. Another $1.8 million is available through incentives. 2009: $4.1 million, 2010: $4.4 million, 2011: $4.05 million, 2012: $4.45 million, 2013: $4.95 million, 2014: Free Agent

so, you find it "lol" that a far superior player is making a base salary that is half of what Bush is due to get paid? well you're in good company; me too!

ETA: before all of you Maddenites come here claiming that Drew has a signing bonus that increases his salary, don't forget that Bush had one too.

Bush has more touchdowns for the Saints since 2006 than everyone else. You don't get rid of the leading scorer on the #1 offense.

the following is a copy and paste of the writeup. the last two paragraphs are part of it, one from Mike Sando and the other from Football Outsiders, a source often referenced by ESPN

The Reggie Bush scenario this offseason is quite an interesting one. It would appear that Bush is more valuable to Sean Payton and the Saints than he would be for some other teams; on the other hand, is he really worth his full-contracted rate of $8 million for 2010? There's a chance that the team will ask him to restructure his contract, but Don Banks of Sports Illustrated opines that it's unlikely he'll be released outright.

Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune concurs, noting that there are three more likely scenarios, as described in the box.

If Bush somehow hits the market, the teams that could go after him include the Seahawks, 49ers, Titans and Lions. But the market will probably increase substantially if he does find himself jobless. As for the Seahawks, NFC West blogger Mike Sando doesn't think Bush's lofty price tag will keep them away:

SANDO"Bush would be a situational player. Generally this is where I would say the price would need to be right, but life changes in an uncapped season. Would the Seahawks, backed by a billionaire owner, spend more freely to help arm Pete Carroll with the talent he wants? Probably, but by how much? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know the Seahawks were OK paying more than $10 million to Jim Mora for not coaching."

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS"Bush has established himself as a player that's occasionally brilliant or hurt, but is usually just mediocre. He's never developed proper patience or timing as a running back, so he gets little out of his skills between the tackles, and amounts to a package approaching Leon Washington's skill set: A competent receiver out of the backfield and above-average return man, but not much more. That's not worth the $8 million the Saints are due to pay him in 2010, and while the title might convince New Orleans that they need Bush to repeat, they'd be better off spending the $8 million on an extension for Drew Brees or a new deal for Darren Sharper. Or beignets." - Bill Barnwell

this is a deceptive stat. you must look at the overall production and contribution from him as a player, not just at the TD's. Many of those any other player would've scored, while many others were due to Bush's great play. Regardless, we're talking about value for production, and TD's is just one color of a palette of paint.

to put it in perspective, Willis McGahee was tied 3rd in total TD's this past season with 14. Does this mean he should be paid the 3rd highest salary in the league? Not quite. Situations allowed him the opportunities for those TD's, just as they have for Bush. We can't discredit the production from the other players that put McGahee and Bush in the position to get a score

Bill Barnwell is on record for stating that he HATES Bush. He's never said a good thing about him, and ignores FO's own statistical analysis of him. Barnwell is hardly an objective commenter.

Since Soph considers Reggie to be valuable because he's scored a lot of touchdowns let's see how he compares to other backs in the league by value/TD. This is the dollar value of each touchdown (including postseason) scored by said player during the 2009 season based on their 2009 salary. Salaries and stats provided by Yahoo!Sports.

Reggie Bush $641,269 (11)

Pierre Thomas $34,160 (11)

Maurice Jones-Drew $42,217 (16)

Chris Johnson $189,063 (16)

Adrian Peterson $134,348 (21)

Deangelo Williams $197,142 (7)

Johnathan Stewart $190,454 (11)

Cedric Benson $74,285 (7)

Thomas Jones $273,333 (15)

Stephen Jackson $3,000,000 (4)

is this a typo? Is S Jax getting paid 12 Mil/year? There's got to be something missing in the explanation.

anyway, I don't want to be misunderstood here. While I am not in the "Reggie is best RB in the NFL" camp, I am also not in the "Reggie is the worst RB" camp neither. I believe he is a very good role player, and he had his best success this season being used as such. I would like to keep him, but I believe it must be at a value commensurate with his role/production. Pay him on par with a Sproles or L Wash. Those are players that are equivelent to Bush.
