I heard maybe the other day someone say something about his lack of ability to pick up complex defensive schemes. Don't know if its valid or what. But last thing i want is someone slow, dumb, neck, and run liability.

I don't really know if this is true or not. He was smart enough to be the most outstanding player on a very good team in the best conference.

Let's face it, the most decorated defensive player the Saints have ever had, Ricky Jackson, was no genius. I would be more worried about his physical health than his mental capacity.

I heard that too. But being that he comes from one of the only programs that run a 3-4, I'm not concerned.

Which I still don't get, because wasn't that the gripe from a lot of players about Spag's defense? Too hard?

What I have heard and read from him in the past is that he is very intelligent at understanding offenses and blocking schemes as well as reading angles. Now, how intelligent he is with Ryan's scheme, who knows? But really, how hard can it be. None of these guys are rocket scientists. Do you think Junior is a genius?

I'll take him over a "high IQ, high motor" guy like Shanle any day of the week.

Pretty much this . He's a linebacker. Go blow people up and hit the qb. I'd love for him to be a mensa member but I'd rather hin shed blocks and tackle. You don't have his production at that level by luck.

That's an understatement. He was a baller though. I don't think IQ means much of shite on the field except for maybe the QB position. The most complex defensive scheme probably isn't more complicated than operating a Cox digital cable box.
