Dude I said totally MIA except a couple times jogging at practice. The "except" should clear up your confusion. He was not seen for a month + of camp, practice, and games except twice jogging on sidelines in a hoodie and sweats.

I just think it is something worth discussing bc it just seems strange. If you think it is nothing then that's fine.

I'd just assume leave it up to the doctors.

Players are paid to play. Being afraid to "give it a go" because "it doesn't feel right" isn't reasonable.

If the doctors are saying he's ready to play, he needs to play. If he has specific issues and the doctors agree that he needs rest, then that's all you can do.
Man, we're real quick to tell others what to do with their bodies with no hesitation whatsoever.

He should be compared to other professional athletes. We see players come back from worse all the time
No 2 injuries are the same.

Is this the confirmed issue in play?

mentioned how he has been mysteriously absent except for 2 appearances jogging on sidelines at practice on a recent podcast.

How is it mysterious when it was reported he'd be working away from the team to finish his PT?

At this point I think I'd rather Bush start until Byrd gets some practice in with the team. He didn't miss near the amount of time last year in TC, as he has this year, and he still didn't look great those first four games.

He was in his suite for the pats game, not that it matters but he didn't look very happy. He was sitting quiet a few seats away from family and friends

Lots of vets don't play in preseason and are fine.

Earlier this month Kenny Vaccaro said he's listening to his doctors and he's not going to rush it

quote:

"I'm not concerned," Vaccaro said. "He'll come back and be the same old Byrd when he's healthy."

"He's coming off a knee (injury), and whatever the doctors tell him, he's going to listen," Vaccaro said.

"He's not going to rush back." Vaccaro also told reporters not to "sleep on" Rafael Bush, who is working at free safety in Byrd's absence. LINK

IMO, Byrd had no interest of being part of this team. The guy isn't even on the sideline during games. Couldn't he at least be with the team and taking a leadership position that the saints brought him in for?

He sure didn't look rusty at all in the few games he played last season. Seamless transition.

He didn't look rusty. He looked like he was playing 40 yards from the line of scrimmage

Let's panic when week 1 comes around

Would you rather him rush back from injury and reinjure himself again for the remainer of the season?

While true, EVERY player and EVERY injury heals different. Again, I hate to compare myself to a professional athlete being that they have far superior resources for rehab, and also have a far greater risk, but out of my three ACL tears/surgery, no two healed the exact same.

That's why you rely on the doctors. Certainly, it's possible that his slow recovery is based on something medical. It's unlikely (we see players come back earlier all the time) but it is possible.

quote:

I am just as frustrated with the Byrd situation as everyone else, but I totally disagree. Honest question, have you ever had to come back from an injury? Whether you think he's taking longer than he should or not, to discount the mental aspect of rehabbing an injury shows a lack of understanding in this situation

If I were being paid to play football, and given top notch continuous care and training, I'm quite sure mentally I'd be able to handle it. I mean presumably, he has been rehabbing for almost a year. He's been able to test it out and strengthen the leg. I'm sure he's been given the green light.

If I was recovering slower than expected, I'd be visiting doctors and physical therapists trying to strengthen the leg and get out there ASAP. But, this would have been relative months ago. Not now. It's been 11 months.

And, certainly any concerns about my injury would be outweighed by the fact that I'm being paid 40+ Million to play football. There is zero chance I just sat around waiting for it to feel better.
