Is it safe to return to the Saints Talk?
Has all the pulling out of hair and prophesying the demise of the franchise abated? I mean we LOST a PRESEASON game, how many have burned their tickets?

I swear, I'm never coming here for on gameday or the 2 days following ever again.

I can't remember this site being this bad for a preseason game before. Sure, we've got our fair share of idiots, but that was just absurd on Friday and the following couple days.
I think the lack of competition for nearly every position has people fricked up because it's not typical for this team. Usually there's something more interesting than the long snapper battle that keeps the board at least somewhat sane.

I think it was Zombie that summed it up the best in another thread.
OH NO!! the Vikings practiced better than we did.

But is preseason not somewhat of an indicator of how a team will do in the regular season? I remember we did well in 09 and did poorly in other years and that translated into poor defense during those years

OMG
serious question. How old are you? You have not watched much football have you? Please tell him you are not over 30. better yet please tell me you are under 20. i mean your post screams 17 years old. i started watching football at 4 or 5 years old. if you have only watched a couple years and just started when you hit 15 go back and do some research on how some teams did in pre season and then regular season.

No, not really.
Principle wants out of pre-season include:
1) Lack of injuries
2) new player evaluations/timing development
3) knock the rust off for returning veterans
This holds for most teams with solid rosters. The SAINTS are one of these teams. Long Snapper is one of the only starting position battles going on. Rest of the battles are for back-up/ST players, etc....
Hell, Drew Brees did not even PLAY... This should tell you something.
For teams with sub-par talent, PS becomes more important. Battles for key starters become important.
For the Saints look to their performance and precision in the 3rd pre-season game. Mainly in the 1st half of that game. The 4th PS game is usually a throw-away, if not you are usually in trouble.

Not particularly. The first half(sometimes only the first quarter) of game 3 of the preseason is usually the best thing to look at if you want to see how the first team is likely to perform, and then it may advisable to still take it with a grain of salt.
Much of this is dictated by how much personal decisions are left to be made for both teams in that game 3 contest. Game 1 & 2 are all about margin players and alignments of reserve and rotation positions for the regular season. Game four is about marginal players who make the end of the roster or the practice squad and giving guys an opportunity to show themselves.
All this assuming this was a legit question.

I think preseason can be a good time to see what coaches do with adjustments if things aren't working on defense. The issue is too many bodies are moving in and out that it can make that a bit difficult.
