In his 3.5 years here, the DL has easily been the most consistent force on the Saints D.

In his last year at NCSt, Ryan had 4 DL drafted in the first 3 rounds. Nielsen MIC’d Up And Nielsen MIC’d up again

His first year with the Saints, Cam Jordan gets his first All-Pro season and 2nd Team All-Pro the next two.

During his time here, we’ve also seen career years out of Okafor, Rankins, Davenport, Onyemata, and T Rex and now even backup guys like Granderson look capable of starting.

Is Nielsen the GOAT Saints DL Coach?

He’s an incredible DL coach, a Coach O disciple.

Saints should promote him to D coordinator if Allen leaves.

Ireland deserves a lot of credit even though most posters on here think it is Loomis who scouts the talent.

Loomis just kicks cans down the road.

We do have (had with Rankins) four 1st rounders on the DL

Rankins 12th overall
Davenport 14th overall
Cam 24th overall
Malcom Brown 32nd overall

3rd rd
Hendrickson 103rd overall

4th rd
Onyemata 120th overall

Tuttle, Roach, Grandy UDFA

I do think Nielsen is a good coach. He has some talent to work with too. Even as 3rd and 4th rounders, Hendrickson and Onyemata had great physical attributes at their pro day. Just small school guys

He is directly responsible for the Saints run defense being so disciplined the last 3 years.

there was a guy I had no idea was on the Saints roster... Ryan Glasgow

couldn't have told you who he was

yet he was all around the plays when he was in the game today

(he was called up off the PS yesterday afternoon)

Ireland oversees rookie scouting

Terry fontenot oversees vet scouting

Collectively they do a great job and probably should both be gm’s. Loomis is incredible making all the numbers work. It’s a fascinating front office setup.

I mean it is truly a team effort from the front office down to the coaching staff but Ireland doesn't really get credit like he should. Neither does Nielsen.

the first year that Nielsen was here the Dline were active in batting down passes down at the line. That Lions game that year was so crazy.

Rare jump to see a college positional coach jump straight to the NFL as a positional coach, having never been a coordinator. Very bright future for Nielsen, he’s a D-Line guru. Just look at Trey Hendricksons development. Off the charts.

I still hold that Saints DL of Joe Johnson, LaRoi Glover, Norman Hand & Darren Howard as the best Saints DL I've ever witnessed.

But what I've loved about Nielsen's tenure, is the consistency of high level play for multiple years, despite interchangeable parts/new faces.

Nielson definitely deserves credit. And though no one wants to give it to him, dennis allen deserves credit as well

totally. Glover was the headliner. 17 sacks for an interior lineman is down right dominant.

i would agree with that too.

no question.
