I never thought he could make me like him but it sounds like he understands NO and the connection the people of NO have to the Saints. He won me over.

He sounds more passionate about NO than Marshal Faulk and Peyton combined, IMO.

Michael Irvin has been a fan of the Saints since Katrina.

He mentioned in his Hall of Fame speech that the most memorable moment since he has been associated with football was watching the Saints return to the dome:

quote:

"My favorite day was Monday, September the 25th, 2006. New Orleans, Louisiana, site of the Superdome. I watched our people who had suffered so grievously through Hurricane Katrina fill a stadium hours before a game and stay hours after the game. I witnessed those fans as they looked for each other, hugged one another and just be thankful to be in that stadium.

You see the game flexed its greatest muscle that day: the ability to heal. I experienced a football game that contributed to the healing of a city. So don't tell me it's just a game."

Marshall Faulk sounds like a lifelong Saints fan that wants NO to win.

Funny I always liked Faulk until he threw a punch at a Saints player. It was the season the Saints won there first playoff game. They played the Rams in week 17 and then again the net week in the playoffs. I don't remember which game it happened in.

See the ESPN special on "The U". You'll understand why someone like Irvin will pull for an underdog that is taking on the unquestioned best QB/team/program ever . . .

My distaste for the Dallas Cowboys in general is well-known... As he was the beneficiary of many cover-ups for grievous off-the-field incidents - I had no respect for him as a player - DEFINITELY NOT a Michael Irvin fan... I watched him try to settle into life after football... stumbling miserably at first. I figured karma was getting its pound of flesh (coulda been worse... coulda been a kilo ).

Then he was off the radar for a while... and returned with... humility.

Now that you know how I feel about the guy - Let me just say that Michael Irvin's Hall of Fame induction speech is probably the single most amazing piece of public speaking I have ever heard to this day. I can count only a couple other occasions where I have been so taken aback by a pleasant surprise.

If you have never seen it before - free up about 25 minutes of your life and listen.
