In Honor of This Week's Matchup, My Top 5 NO-DAL Moments of All-Time
Posted on 11/27/18 at 7:15 pm
Posted on 11/27/18 at 7:15 pm
If any team comes close to matching my hatred of our arch-rival, the Atlanta Falcons, it's the Dallas Cowboys. It was very annoying to deal with people I grew up jumping ship to become Cowboys fans in the 90s. Many citizens of Louisiana - especially North Louisiana - are guilty of being bandwagon Dallas fans. At least now they're stuck cheering for a team embroiled in constant mediocrity. I want very badly to beat the Cowboys. In honor of that sprit, here are, in my opinion, the Top 5 Moments in Saints vs. Cowboys through the years:
5) CJ Spiller scores an 80-yd TD on the second play in overtime in 2015. That pass is also the 400th of Drew's career. Saints beat the Cowboys 26-20 in the Dome.
4) The Saints score 3 rushing TDs en route to a 28-0 goosing of the Cowboys in NOLA in 1989. Both Dalton Hilliard and Ironhead score. Aikman throws for 180 yds and 2 picks, and gets sacked twice, for a 40.2 passer rating.
3) The Saints beat the Cowboys for the first time in 1971. New Orleans outlasts Dallas in Tulane Stadium, 24-14.
2) In 2010, the Saints win a Thanksgiving thriller over the Cowboys, thanks in large part to a Malcolm Jenkins run-down and strip of Roy Williams at the 11 yd line. The fumble recovery allows the Saints to march 89 yds for a late go-ahead TD from Drew to Lance Moore. The Cowboys' kicker missed a 59-yd FG attempt as time expired to seal the Saints victory.
1) While the Domecoming Game vs. Atlanta in 2006 was the announced arrival of the Drew Brees/Sean Payton era Saints, a week 14 showdown with the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football became their official coming out party. Drew Brees absolutely torched the Cowboys, throwing for 384 yds and 5 TDs, en route to a 42-17 arse-kicking on a national stage. Payton out-coached his mentor, Bill Parcells, utilizing Mike Karney to the tune of 3 TDs and even going for a successful onside kick. By the end of the game, you could loudly hear "Who Dat?!" chants from the crowd through the telecast, as Saints fans had completely taken over Cowboys Stadium. To this day, it remains one of my absolute favorite Saints games ever.
Please comment with your thoughts and share your favorite moments from Saints-Cowboys through the years. Let's all revel in our mutual hatred of Dallas, Jerry Jones, and the grossly overblown corporation that is "AmERicA's TeAM."

Can’t argue with that list.
Also was Aikman’s very first game.

I was there. It was epic in person. The best part was the Dallas fans talking crap and then the Malcolm Jenkins play happened. They energy in the stadium went from elation to dejection all in one play.

Loved the 06 game just from the narrative that Carrie Underwood was interested in Romo before that game and went to watch him play that night. Never heard of them again after that night and I hope we played a factor.

I remember that 2006 game when we just stopped playing in the 4th. There was nothing the cowboys could do.

What about 2013 when we set the record for the most first downs in NFL history with 40?

The first Saints game I ever went to was against the Cowboys when I was like, 10 or 11 or so. Collins was our QB back then. Dont remember much except we shut their whole offense down and forced Aikman to take a safety. Remember winning convincingly so Inwas pretty pumped, then me and dad spent the rest of the day walking around NOLA.
Growing up, the Saints playing the Cowboys has always been a treat since always seemed to beat them no matter how shitty we were. I guess we had to make a deal to let the Cowboys finally win one in exchange for a SB so all things considered that wasnt too bad.

Christmas Eve 1999, Dellhome’s first start in the NFL. Saints upset the cowboys 31-24 to notch their 3rd win of the season in week 16. Actually a very fun game.

1998.
Saints 22 Dallas 3
even though we went 6-10 that yeaR that game was fricking awesome.
Emmitt Smith was totally bottled up by the Saints D.
Kerry Collins threw a long TD pass to Andre Hastings as well.

That was in 1998. Saints won 22-3. I remember that game because we held Emmitt Smith to 6 yards on 15 carries. Dallas had 8 total rushing yards. It was glorious.

The Saints had a gazillion first downs. Offense was on point all night

Dumbass Madden thought the Saints crowd was shouting Doooo It when Deuce would make a big play.

Was at that game as well and your description is spot on. When Dallas made their comeback and took the lead, Cowboy fans would not STFU. Williams catches the pass and guy behind me stands on his feet and is yelling. Then Jenkins comes out of nowhere and all was silent. As they say the rest is history

Hokie Gajan's 62 yard run in Texas Stadium. Saints blew 21 point 4th quarter lead to go on to lose 30-27 in overtime. Heartbreaking loss as a kid for me.
