I know Ireland recently received a contract extension but with some teams in search of GM candidates what are the chances a team like Houston steals him....

That would be stupid. Loomis should take an executive sports managing role of Benson's teams. Ireland should be the Saints GM.

He’s taking a leave of absence and the Texans May hire someone to take his place.

I wouldn't say he gets stolen this year.

He gets us another FA and draft like this past year and he's gone unless we name him GM

I'd imagine that if it came to Ireland leaving for a GM role, this would happen.

Oh saw this tweet and didn't read very carefully before

@AdamSchefter: Houston's Rick Smith is retaining his Executive VP title with the Texans, and intends to come back after he assists his wife and family.

He was bad at the contract side of things. Maybe he’s ready for another chance.

I think Ireland may like just being the player guru, and let Loomis handle all the financial stuff.

They make a good team. I'm also guessing Ireland is being paid pretty well for his contributions.

Loomis, GM 1
Ireland, GM 1A

The other aspect is the fact that Ireland comes with some baggage and controversy from his time in Miami.
I wouldn't be horribly surprised to see him become a GM again in the future, but I'd be amazed if he didn't become the GM/Co-GM of the Saints if he even interviews for that position somewhere else.
