If we're tight on cap space, would you rather keep Okafor or Vaccaro?

Okafor plays the more important position. Both seem to have some depth behind them (Bell at SS, Hendrickson and Kikaha could split duties at RDE and I really want to see Muhammad get some playing time).

Okafor and I don’t think it’s a dumb question, considering the Saints are going to have to pay Brees too. If you’re expecting Brees to take a bottom basement contract you’d better think again. He’s never done it before and won’t now.

Think it's some kind of odd coincidence that no one gets beat deep the first game Vacarro isn't in the lineup?

It's not like we had great pressure all game. Had some good rushes but he's had some good pockets too. Secondary played their best game today without Vacarro on the field. That speaks volumes.

And there are teams 8 teams with over $50m in cap space next season.

Hendrickson and Kikaha have played well. Bell has played well. Okafor is balling out but he's playing significantly better than he did in Arizona, where he was a solid rotational player. KV is having a really good year but we've seen him play at this level before.

Getting some relief from Fairley's deal would help us out a bunch.

We weren't exactly getting beat deep on the reg the past 6 weeks with KV in the lineup. I'm not a huge KV fan, but he's a good player and extremely versatile. Fortunately PJ Williams played very well at the nickel today, but KV has been awesome this season covering slot WR's.

The 3 deals (under contract) that we could get some cap space on are Fairley, Strief (paycut or cut), & Fleener (paycut or cut).

The 3 RFA's are Coleman, Snead, & Breaux. I assumed we were going to put a 2nd round tender on both Snead & Breaux, but I'm not so sure now. Oddly enough, Coleman has played the best out of these 3 guys.

The 4 big UFA's are Brees, Kelemete, Okafor, & Vaccaro. Obviously Brees is the most important. Next, I'd say Okafor then Vaccaro. We probably get outbid for Kelemete.

We have 3 other UFA's (around league minimum contracts) that are kind of important...Chase Daniel, Josh LeRibeus, & Rafael Bush.

Everyone else on the roster is either coming back next year (legit contributor) or is a bottom of the roster type (has to compete in the preseason).

I like Vaccaro & I'd like to sign him if the price is right. Bringing Vaccaro back basically completely solidifies the secondary position. Having PJ Williams as a backup is like having Kelemete on the O-Line. PJ is the backup for Lattimore, Crawley, & Vaccaro in the slot. We just need to find a backup for Marcus Williams (he's the only true Free Safety on the roster).

I really think that if we don't re-sign Vaccaro in the offseason...it's because the coaches feel like they can get around similar production with Vonn Bell & PJ Williams. Rafael Bush is acceptable to have as a #4 Safety, but I think at this point in his career...he's depth at best. Banjo might even beat out Bush next year.

Fairley’s contract will basically account for Okafor

Hopefully. That would make things much easier. We're already in a decent position going into the 2018 offseason.

We would just need to re-sign Brees & the most important parts of our free agency would be complete.

Depends on who those teams are. If its a team like Cleveland is it really worth taking a little bit more for career suicide?

If the Saints can make a competative offer i think he'll stay.

Bell and Vaccaro aren't really playing the same position. And while PJ is playing the nickel with Vaccaro out, he doesn't do the LBery stuff Vaccaro does.
