...then he immediately becomes the enemy...unless he goes to Cleveland, Detroit, Toronto, or London, then who cares.

When he takes the Dallas job, I hope Roger Godell's vendetta continues against Sean Payton led teams

Why would any established coach go work for this guy? Payton had so much independence and control over the Saints. I cannot see any scenario where a coach - who's name is higher than management on the operational chart - wakes up and says "you know i really want to give all this up and go work for an owner who will micromanage and second guess every decision i make"

We keep asking that, but Sean keeps trying to get over there. We gloss over a lot of shite that happened during the last 16 years regarding Sean: bountygate, vicodine, several losing seasons, the bizarre moving to Dallas saga when his wife was leaving him, and the fact in the last few years, we have swung for a difference maker FA and were not getting guys we needed. Throw in the fact that the NFL obviously hates us. Perhaps there was more turmoil behind the scenes that never spilled out into the public.

The more I think back to him abruptly moving himself and his family to Dallas and justifying it as the same commute on a private jet, the more fricking insane that is. What other coach could get away with something like that? I understand it was because his family life was falling apart, but how would any other fanbase react if their head coach moved 8 hours away in the city where one of your city's major rivals resides.
It would be like Nick Saban commuting to Tuscaloosa from Baton Rouge.

Agreed. Cowboy fans keep thinking that Jerry would change for Sean but Jerry has not changed in the +30 years he's owned the team. That said, Payton's legacy is secure even if falling short somewhere else, and Jerry could do something like offer $15 million a year.

Is Payton not the highest paid coach in the league already? It ain't like he capped out in New Orleans.

I don't see any reason to cave and get little.
3 years under contract.
If someone wants him they should bend over.
If not they can hire Gruden.

I hope Payton gets a job doing TV for FOX and hangs out with Jimmy Johnson every day. Jimmy can tell Sean how even after winning consecutive Super Bowls - Jerry still wanted to fight and eventually play the boss card on coaching strategy and roster decisions. Its Jerrys World, so by all means - but again, i don't see an established Coach, after a decade of front office control and independence, thinking Dallas is a career uplift.

Besides the amount of power he had with decision making (trades and draft picks), didnt Payton also just buy one of those million dollar condos in one of the towers downtown? I think I read that somewhere. Makes you wonder why now?

Yes. Go into the thread from earlier today & watch the clip from the Dan Patrick Show this morning. Payton mentioned he was in the process of moving there.

I'm just thinking out loud here but I say that SP wants to build a new life with his new bride and he wants to help his daughter advance her sports broadcasting career.
SP is going to learn the business of sports broadcasting and he's going to use his influence to help his kid's career.
Finally, SP is going to want to retire with his wife somewhere some day. Dallas is a MUCH better place to do that than NOLA.
Whether SP will be what Jerry Jones expects him to be is, I say, unknown. BUT, Jerry Jones is in love with SP and would love to have him in the "Bullpen" should Mike McCarthy not win a SB for Dallas.
