I would. At that point, I'd take Watson over any prospect in the draft.

To keep? Not at 32 or 132 or 232.

His only value would be in a trade scenario to another team.

I'd run to the podium.

Gotta replace Brees at some point. Get someone in and start grooming.

Even if we do resign Brees it may only be on a 2-3 year deal. By the end we can hope Watson is legit and ready to start.

And you get the fifth year option for one more cheap year.

So you spend a 1st round pick for a QB on 1 cheap year deal?

we should be selling out to win now. not the future.

Hell Brees may bolt after this year. He's on record as saying he plans on playing out his contract and becoming a FA.

And who the frick knows what happens then. And if he only signs a 2 year deal then we have Watson as a cheap starter for two years, but more importantly a longer term solution if he is legit.

After that you try to sign him to a 6-7 year deal and have your QB for the future.

I'd think about it if he's at 11.

Yeah if he makes it to 11 I'd pause too, but we desparately need a defensive end. Only if all the top DEs are gone do I take a very serious look.

If DW is there at 11, take him. There will be at least one good DE, such as, Harris, Lawson or Taco left at #32. The Saints better have a 10+ win in 2017, so next year's #1 pick will not be near the TOP 10. This is the year to get a QB in the draft if DW is available.
He won the game against Bama which has many NFL caliber players on their DEF.

If DW can play 2-3 years behind Brees, he will learn a lot. If Brees takes off in 2018, then you better have a QB.
If DW is there at #11 the Saints don't have much of a choice in that situation. They gotta take him.

Agree.

I wouldn't be mad with Watson at 32 at all.

its gonna suck when Brees is gone but Watson at 32 would be a miracle I think.

I thought it was kind of cool how he never seemed rattled in the championship games against Alabama. First time around.. they came up short and you saw no quit in him. Then the second time.. he led his team to a comeback win over a team who had been previously 96-0 with a double digit lead going into the 4th quarter.

three straight 7-9s "selling out to win now"

Maybe actually adding draft picks and possibly grabbing a replacement QB is a step towards being a forward thinking franchise
