What's preventing him from coming back other than maybe he doesn't want to? Would be the simplest solution since he's still under contract.

Unless there was other stuff behind the scenes that makes that unlikely.

I know it's unlikely that they pull the plug that quickly but this is far worse than anyone expected and it's not going to get better soon.

Payton is not going to any team with a shitty QB.

Payton is not touching this team with a 1000ft pole. He is one of the reasons we're in this situation.

He made this mess. He won't nest in it. He's made it clear.

His lackadaisical attitude toward long term planning killed this franchise for the next 5 years.

I think our desperation for him will require more of a bounty

Gayle better be willing to part with a nice chunk of team ownership.

SP quit because it got too hard. Why would he come back to a worse situation than the one he left?

Payton is an overrated HC who lucked out with Brees.

Why would he come BACK to the shitshow he abandoned????

Payton wants to cherry pick a spot for himself. There’s no way he’d risk being exposed by not having a great QB.

He went 9-8 and damn near made the playoffs with Trevor F’n Simien and Ian Book having to start games. I’d say he’s worth it.

See Payton liked to play kick the can like a politician. Then when it comes time to pay up, they jump ship.

Our Cap is screwed for the next 3 years because of the culture he built. He wrecked the way this team approaches the draft because he knew once Brees was gone, he'd hit the Exit.

For everything Payton did for this franchise, there's about 2 things he did terribly.

Now our decision makers know nothing but the Payton way. Well surprise...it doesn't work without a Top 5 QB of All Time.

How Payton gets a pass with the media and fans because of this is mindblowing.

He knows how to score the ball. You can find a solid defensive mind a lot easier than you can offense. Defense is more about the players and want to than skill. You can have a good defense with ok players if they play their asses off and have good fundamentals.

He also had 3 straight losing seasons with Drew Brees before landing the best draft class ever. Then after that class arrived, never made a SB with possibly the best roster in the league for like 4 straight years.

Pigs could fly and he wouldn’t come back to New Orleans. His new wife and he both like the bright lights of a big market. They like attention and will go to a team where he’s the spotlight in a prime market. LA, DAL, MIA, etc……he would take the Seattle job too since he lives in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho now so he’d be close to home.

A super bowl bought him unlimited grace from some.

After 2009, he was a coach who won a lot of regular seasons games and then choked in the playoffs all the time. Literally have zero to show for it after 2009 except a bunch of regular season wins and extreme playoff heartbreak. Whoopie.

Payton really struggled with this and wasted prime years of Brees because of it.

Payton probably got tired of the amateurs in the front office.

Ireland is no amateur but Loomis is terrible. Khai Harley is a cap genius.
