Doesn't it seem like punting would have been the right move?

it's the bucs.

They wouldn't be the dumpster fire they are if they wouldn't snatch defeat right from the jaws of victory.

frick em...on to AZ!

No, because if we had punted instead of having Hartley kick the FG, time would have expired and we would have lost the game.

Maybe, but I'm honestly not surprised by anything Schiano does at this point.

I see your point but a 47 yard fg attempt in the nfl has about a 60-65% chance of success. It's not like it was a 55 yard attempt.

If the Bucs make that kick, the game is almost impossible to lose. With a punt you don't gain that much field position, since the Saints started on their own 39. The risk was worth it for Tampa. The kicker just didn't execute.

I was watching with a Bucs fan. I said punt, he said FG. If he makes it, the Saints are in a ton of trouble.

If they punt it and we kick a field goal for the win then he'd look a lot worse, IMO. Kicker just missed it.

Punt if you don't trust your kicker, kick if you do. Guess he trusted Lindell. It would have made the comeback almost impossible and it wasn't a ridiculous distance.

a good NFL kicker should make a 46-47 yarder... and Lindell is a vet (though he was only 68% last season from that 40-49 distance)

also it's too close to punt... even a mediocre punt has a real good chance to go in the end zone for a touchback (effectively a 10-12 yd net punt roughly)

I think Buc fans should complain more about a run call on 3rd & 7 (and even then that wasn't a bad decision at all considering how Martin was running)... that was a "play not to lose" call more than anything

No way. You don't call a pass under two minutes with the other team having zero timeouts. And if you do, it's something very safe that likely doesn't get you a much better chance at picking up the 7 you need.

I'm kinda surprised Schiano didn't ice Hartley with his last TO.

He had a TO, right?

He's probably well aware of the data suggesting that icing the kicker doesn't work.

The math has actually shown it's a bad idea to ice the kicker. I think we've seen it kind of going away the last couple of years.

Punting was the best choice.. It would make the Saints have to go something like 60 yards with no timeouts and spike it. Cover the sidelines and keep it in the field= game over

49 yard FG was stupid in that situation

1- Punt and play D
2- Go for it and win the game with a first down
3-Kick a FG

It was only 4th and 2. They should have gone for it.

Yeah I was kinda surprised they didn't just go for it. But any decision was going to be judged on the final result. Kicking was probably the safest thing to do. Kicker just goofed.

Saints would've gotten a TD if they needed it, fwiw.

They made the right decision. You get fired if you go for that and dont get it. It was 4th and 2.....a decent chance the saints can stop that.

Decent chance to make a 47 yard field goal. If he makes it, the bucs chances go up dramatically. Miss it and you still have a good shot. A punt to gain about 20 yards of field position with the saints still only needing a field goal would have been stupid
