I think the best deal of the offseason will end up being signing David Edwards.

A 4 year $61 million dollar deal that is in reality a 3 year $45 million deal that we have an opt out after the ‘28 season. We also front loaded the guaranteed money instead of our usual kick the can method that $40 mil of the $45 mil total guaranteed gets paid his first 3 years so we could cut bait with only a $5 million dead cap hit when he will still be only 32 years old. He isn’t going to be a flashy guy that many talk about but that means he’s doing his job. Having a playoff tested vet at LG will only help Kelvin Banks. He’s going to be an anchor guy for the OL, he’s always available. Well worth the investment. Now if someone can just push Ruiz out the door we would be set.

I completely agree. His signing reminds me of when we signed Larry Warford. Was a solid starter for the lions then made the pro bowl all of his years with the saints

Board was really high on the OG in the 3rd, Wright, as someone that may be able to unseat Ruiz as the season goes on.
Not sure how much of that was looking for anyone with a pulse in hopes of finally moving on; and how much is because of his expected presence in the run game. Either way, whether it’s Wright or a FA next offseason; I suspect this is essentially Ruiz’s contract year and he’ll be cut this offseason.

I hate to put the season on one position but can't help it. If the center for the Saints plays all 17 games we will be in the playoffs.

Edwards is who I wanted them to go after. I actually wanted them to sign 2 Gs and ship Ruiz’s arse off…….but at least we got 1. He is a very smart technician, which I think will help in both the running game, as well as, less blown assignments in pass protection

Wright was picked in the 4th, but I get your point. The problem is that I think Wright is more of a developmental prospect than anything. I like him, but I was hoping for more of a polished G in the 4th, but the upside is definitely nice.
Him unseating Ruiz is just going to depend how fast he develops in pass protection, as well as, if Ruiz actually improves (I don’t see it).
I can’t recall Mickey ever calling a player out by name like that in an offseason press conference. I’m glad he did it, because there were plenty local media types that were acting like he was fine

I was really hoping we’d pick Dunker in the 3rd. And he’d be able to take Ruiz’s spot the following year. You dint really want rookies starting on the oline.

Yeah having the mullet would have been cool but he can also play smash mouth football. Still, I’m not mad at the pick. I’m one of the few that think Delp is going to end up being a starting player in the league. He won’t start this year but we will get to see some of that potential.
