I think Allen could be a successful HC somewhere else. But he will always be viewed by the players as the DC, Payton’s subordinate. Easy to say now, I know, but I was always afraid this was gonna happen when we faced adversity. He’s not perceived as “The guy” in New Orleans. He’s seen as “The Guy’s” #2, and they don’t have the trust in him to keep it together and dig them out of this hole.

I don't think so. Some guys are just coordinators for life. With all that's gone on, how bad this defense has been is the most bewildering.

Literally no one thinks this. This narrative needs to die

Do elaborate. I’m sure the prior 4-12, 4-12, and 0-4 seasons inspired a lot of confidence

Maybe not. And that wasn’t really my point, but I didn’t make it clear. I meant more he could potentially be a successful HC(or not), but not in New Orleans because of how he’s perceived by the players.
I get we thought the window was still open and wanted a smooth transition, so they went with him. And admittedly, I was fine with it at the time. But I thought he really needed to start fast to build trust as the head guy, as soon as shite went south, they were gonna start thinking of him as the DC and not the leader they could look to and trust to fix shite when/if it went south.
