How did the Saints stop Derrick Henry?

I was expecting him to run all over NO and somehow, they were able to limit both Henry and Lamar Jackson in the running department.

They didn't. Baltimore just stopped running the ball. He only had 5 carries in the second half.

Looked like a gang tackling type of mentality. For the most part you when you saw one defender it followed by another 3 or 4 go get him.

They had success. No big busted plays, which I think was the gameplan, but he consistently gained good yardage.

Their OC is a protege of Sean Payton. Looks like he picked up some of Sean's more annoying in-game tendencies, i.e. totally abandoning the run.

Both the last Baltimore staff and this one seem hell bent on just going away from maybe the craziest RB force in modern history for long key stretches. It’s truly mind boggling sometimes but I will take it.

Was truly crazy to realize... and a key reason we held them to just 3 points in the 2nd half
Another fun stat... the Saints rushed the ball 5 more times than the Ravens yet Baltimore had 43 more rushing yards than New Orleans

Same... esp. since the 3rd down call was a deep shot (I think it was Kool-Aid with a nice PBU on that play)
I figured the deep shot was a tell that they had already decided to go for it

Should have given him more touches in the first half. 2nd half was more about the situation.
He had 4 touches on their first possession in the 2nd half. Their 2nd possession started when there was 1:41 left in the 3rd. He ran the ball on 1st & 15 and lost 3 yards. They weren't running on 2nd & 18, or 3rd & 26.
Their 3rd possession the game was tied with 9:37 left in the game. Henry ran on 2nd & 3 and gained 2 yards. Should have given it to him on 3rd & 1, unless he pulled himself out (saw him do that twice); but this may be the only true questionable "why didn't they run Henry" situation.
Next time they touch the ball, they are down 7 w/ 1:21 left on the clock

Honestly I think the Saints did a good job of shortening the game... no big hitter plays

Hold on, the saints do deserve credit. He averaged 4.3 per rush which is lowest per carry in the last 6 games, going back to last season. And he had a long rush of 8 yards.
It wasn’t like they were gashing us and just stopped. The saints held him in check.

I'm sure that Ravens fans are talking amongst themselves today saying that that was probably just a rookie coach getting too conservative or overthinking it.

as noted above, the Baltimore OC stopped Derrick Henry. Horrible play calling. In the 3Q: Henry had 4 carries for 15 yds. In the 4Q, 1 carry 2 yds. He needs 25 carries a game to wear out the defense, and bust a 40+ yd run. Crazy that his longest carry was 8 yds. He had 10 carries for 5 yds or less including a -2 yd carry.
