Saints running a Cover3/Cover 1/Cover 0 and you will witness Tyrann make Earl Thomas look like a fluke.

Mathieu is a strong safety. He will play some FS, but that is not his best position.

OP referenced Cover 3, Cover 1 & Cover 0.
From what I recall, in the Cover 3 & 0, the FS is basically consider a FS from their assignments. Cover 0 FS covers RB or Slot, SS has TE responsibilities. Cover 3, I think it's just a factor of which zone he falls into.
I agree that I do not see him used more in the traditional FS role in Cover 1; but the other 2 it would basically be a technicality over who is FS vs SS. If my memory serves me correctly

I agree, but I see the Cover 0 and 1 turning into a 3 but leaving the SS to cover the RB and TE only to turn around and let the FS go into a Cover 4-3 equals 1 so possibly the best case scenario is the previous one listed.

Full strength or free safety?

Sharper was considered old and washed up playing @ SS for Minnesota.
Then he came here and changed the defense @ FS.
But who knows what these great minds have in store. From what I understand we have "Co- Defensive " Coordinators. Then the defensive Head Coach...

He's not nearly fast enough to be a lone high safety. That's why he's been a SS-NB guy for a few years.
