- In a 2011 season in which the New Orleans Saints rewarded players for injuring opponents in a "pay-for-pain" bounty scheme, the team was among the most violent in the National Football League, a Reuters analysis shows.

Even though we didn't have the most violent penalties, because our defense was less penalized we are the violent ones.

perception IS reality folks.

Repeat something enough and people will believe it.

Joseph Goebbels would be proud.

The analysis suggests other teams in the league may have systems, an ethos, or playing styles that encouraged violent rule-breaking. And it all comes amid a 70 percent surge in violent penalties in the NFL since 2008.

Did it never occur to them that refs might just be throwing more and less consistently?

To bad hem reuters hasn't heard that the NFL is cracking down on certain types of hits by flaging the shite out of teams to change the way the game is played.

Kinda leads to more flags roiders.

More violations per play is a better indicator than the overallnumber of penalties.

I remember reading (it may have been in that pdf document from the NFL) about the Saints ranking in the top 5 for unnecessary roughness penalties - or something like that. Obviously they were not #1, or I am sure that would have been pointed out. Are they doing to investigate any of the other 5 teams? Seems it is all about the Saints, and everyone else just gets a free pass.

Nope, that would make too much sense.

Did Reuters talk about how many yellow cards the saints got last year? Horrifying.
