I'll take as many ex GMs on drafting and for draft day as we can get.

nb4 New Orleans Raiders talk

He didn't overlap with DA's Raiders days. What is slightly interesting is bringing in the guy that unceremoniously ran off our current starting QB.

Some more info from when he interviewed with the Broncos
quote:
Ziegler, the Patriots' assistant director of player personnel, is the third candidate to interview for the Broncos' open general manager position.
Ziegler has spent the last eight years with the Patriots in a variety of roles. He served as the assistant director of pro scouting from 2013-15 and was then promoted to director of pro personnel from 2016-19 before assuming his current role in 2020.
Before joining New England, Ziegler spent a brief stint in Denver as a Broncos player personnel assistant/area scout in 2011 and a pro scout in 2012.
"Because Bill Belichick is the final decision-maker, it's hard to identify one move and say, 'This was all Dave Ziegler,'" ESPN's Mike Reiss told DenverBroncos.com. "That's just not the way the Patriots work. But for those behind the scenes, a picture has been painted to me that Ziegler is always well prepared on a daily basis, and when a need arises, he puts the organization in the best spot to fill it decisively."

Lots of corporate words saying nothing

Who knows. But I'll take his connections with other teams, coaches, players, agents, college coaches etc. that is unique to him. Can't hurt.

I also like it in case we lose Ireland next year, Ziegler could be brought back to fill his role

what I wonder is if this is setting up a situation where Mickey moves up, Ireland takes his spot and this guy slides into the Ireland role now?
conspiracy talk land, but it is an interesting move. i realize it is through the draft, but i wonder if it is a "let's see how you do this draft" and if he hits, he gets retained

Sounds like the classic..."One year cheap prove it deal" maneuver

or ireland on the outs. khai would be the loomis replacement, not ireland.

I would agree, but with Ireland being a former GM in Miami - he has the experience to run it.
that said, you are probly right

The Raiders have been maybe the worst organization in football for years.
And we are desperately trying to be them.

Getting fresh perspectives on rookies and the draft is something the Saints desperately need. Their war room seems a little stale at times.
I’m hopeful that with the new Offensive staff and now Ziegler coming on board we finally see the saints taking interest in the modern day NFL potential stars.

Except the majority of his career was spent handling pro personnel for the Patriots during the Belicheck and Brady years
Very low iq take

Why do we keep going for failed employees from a historically bad franchise
Posted on 2/26/24 at 6:44 pm to Macintosh504
He has actually had other jobs elsewhere

This is like trying to give Eric Bienemy credit for the Chiefs offense
