re: Food for thought on all the "why hate Ingram" threads

Its a shame. He's probably going to go down as one of the more unappreciated players we've had. Especially if he keeps trending up like last year.
Ingram is never going to be that prime AP and thats ok. He is exactly what we need him to be though.

Ehh...I'd say he's more top 15 but definitely not top 5. But I do agree with the rest. Some of them cite him being a first round pick as the reason why they hate him but that's not his fault. Even if he has a good play or good game some of them downplay it. They hate him like he did something to personally hurt their feelings. Good thing is "they" make up less than half the fan base.

You forgot about all the fumbles.
How do we have a running back that can't hang on to the damn ball.
Need to get Tim McGraw on his arse with the duckttape
im just going to take the bait just to prove a point.
Ingram:
953 carries, 5 fumbles, 3 lost
149 receptions, 3 fumbles, 2 lost
1102 touches, 8 fumbles, 5 lost
1 fumble/137.75 touches
1 lost/220.4 touches
Thomas:
833 carries, 3 fumbles, 3 lost
336 receptions, 2 fumbles, 0 lost
1169 touches, 5 fumbles, 3 lost
1 fumble/233.8 touches
1 lost/389.7 touches
Ivory:
1000 carries, 16 fumbles, 8 lost
73 receptions, 1 fumble, 0 lost
1073 touches, 17 fumbles, 8 lost
1 fumble/63.1 touches
1 lost/134.125 touches
Robinson:
194 carries, 2 fumbles, 2 lost
25 receptions, 0 fumbles
219 touches, 2 fumbles, 2 lost
1 fumble/109.5 touches
1 lost/109.5 touches
so only the great PT had a better number than Ingram.

Some are just ignorant and some are trolls. I most of the time fall in the later.

more top 15
His yards per attempt for a feature back (150+ carries) has been between 3, 5,and 11 the past three seasons, which is why I said 5-10. He also gets stronger as the game goes on and even when the Saints have the lead Payton seems to get away from him. I of course say seems because I haven't gone that indepth into the advanced stats, but I've let out a litany of adjectives describing Payton's playcalling after Ingram would rattle off two or three 7+ yard carries in a drive and then would not be seen again for the remainder of the drive.

It's like you people only see where he went to school and watch a game or two a year. Mark Ingram isn't a freaking speed back, of course he's not breaking out huge runs, no one is expecting him to.

KRob 2014 62 yards
Most fans remember him for this one run and act like he was the next great running back or the second coming of Ivory (which injury wise he was).
In reality he was just a really good spell back you throw in to hammer a few carries, much like what we did with Bell and Hightower.
He was also limited in that he couldn't pass protect and wasn't a good receiver.
And his last year here he had 50+ runs with a 3.2 average. It was an awful year.
While I liked him for depth in the hammer back role, that's all he was ever good for.
KRob stats
You take out that 62 yarder and his average that year drops from 4.8 to 4, and his career average drops to 3.75.

His fumbles have been back breaking though, at the worst time possible. Not that there's ever a good time for a fumble. He's not my favorite rb, but I'll take him over a lot of the league.
RBs I'd rather have in no particular order:
David Johnson
Zeke
Leveon
Gurley
Howard
Latavious Murray
Demarco Murray
LeSean McCoy
Freeman
Martin
Ajayi
Gordon
Ware

Take out those and I can't argue your list much.
Ingram is borderline top 10, definite top 15 and he is also a good pass catcher and pass protector. He's a true 3 down back.

That has Ingram as a low top 10 back, account for a little hometown bias, I would say he's safely in the top 12.

Johnson
Zeke
Bell
McCoy
Murray
Freeman
I can agree with 100%
Gurley, Howard, Ajayi I would heavily consider because of youth and potential, but they have flaws as well.
Latavious Murray, Melvin Gordon, and Spencer Ware are worse
Doug Martin is the definition of boom or bust

Answer: He went to Alabama and was seen cheering on his team at the Super Dome when they embarrassed LSU. That's literally it
Nah, that's not it.
He underperformed his first couple of years after we gave up a lot to get him.
He threw a fit on the sideline last year because he didn't get to score - like a toddler.
He doesn't fumble much, but he has fumbled at some horrific times.
It goes way beyond an LSU-Bama hang-up.
Posted on 5/11/17 at 1:28 pm to NawlinsTiger9
He also followed up one of the best runningbacks the Saints have ever had, so there's that.
I swear it's like some of you don't even remember how despised Reggie Bush was in certain Saints circles - he didn't go to Bama. He fumbled at memorable times, underperformed his draft position, and occasionally had trouble with our play-calling.
Sound like someone you know?

I HATED the Deuce Mcallister pick. I was in a restaurant and threw a fit. We had just sold out an entire draft to get Ricky Williams who was a really good RB and we passed on Ryan Pickett, Todd Heap, Anthony Thomas and Drew Brees. Plus he was from Ole Miss so I already hated him and thought he was overrated.
Then Ricky Williams was traded and Deuce became the guy and ran his butt off when we weren't that good and was a great guy in the community and became a Saints record holder and one of my favorite players.
That's why I don't hate Ingram. I think he may have been drafted to high compared to what we've gotten out of him. His first two years were not good. He doesn't score many touchdowns, and you don't really see him involved in the community. And he's had some durability issues. That being said, this offense isn't going to allow him big stats or anything and he's done really well the last two years. He's a solid player. No more and no less IMO.

Nobody cares where he went to school I was exited to have him but he's a reach, garbage, and slow.

Mark Ingram was #1 in yards after contact after week 9 last year
Posted on 5/11/17 at 4:15 pm to tigerterrace
past 4 seasons :
avg. yds. per yr. 790.5
avg. yds. per carry 4.73
past 3 seasons :
avg. all purpose yds. 1215
Above avg. pass blocker
playing in a very predictable
rushing offense.
Playing behind an offensive line that has been no better than average run blocking.
If anything his performance has been gradually ascending. As far as I can remember we have had no one on the roster that earned there way into his job. I don't understand the problem.
