Quarterbacks(3)
Drew Brees
Tom Savage
Taysom Hill

The backup plays a role in helping Drew dissect information on the sideline in game. I think that guy is Savage.

Running backs(5)
Alvin Kamara
Jonathan Williams
Boston Scott
Zach Line
Trey Edmunds

Its becoming clearer that Williams is poised for a nice role in the offense the first 4 games.

Wide Receivers(5)
Michael Thomas
Ted Ginn Jr.
Cameron Meredith
Tre’Quan Smith
Brandon Tate

Brandon Tate has looked good as the returner. Ive been saying that Id love to see someone emerge and challenge TLL. I know this is kind of a long shot, but after seeing a couple practices and preseason games, I like Keith Kirkwood.

Tight ends(3)
Ben Watson
Josh Hill
Dan Arnold

Is Hooman going to be ready for the season? Not sure what his status is right now.

Offensive line(8)
Ryan Ramczyk
Terron Armstead
Max Unger
Larry Warford
Andrus Peat
Rick Leonard
Cameron Tom
Josh LeRebeus

Kind of going off what Ive been reading here, but would staff cut the 4th round pick in favor of a 34 year old Bushrod? Sean Kelley seems to think Tom is the guy at center.

Defensive line(8)
Cam Jordan
Alex Okafor
Trey Hendrickson
Marcus Davenport
Sheldon Rankins
David Onyemata
Mitchell Loewen
Devaroe Lawrence

4 edge, 4 interior with some versatility. Tough call between Lawrence and Davison, but give me Lawrence.

Linebackers(7)
Demario Davis
A.J. Klein
Manti Te’o
Alex Anzalone
Craig Robertson
Nate Stupar
Jayrone Elliot

Group with the most speculation past couple of months. I dont think there are any surprises here. Is Kikaha an edge rusher? A linebacker? I think he could play else where, but not sure he fits on this team. Elliot has looked explosive. Might be classified as a DE? Not sure.

Cornerbacks(7)
Marshon Lattimore
Ken Crawley
Patrick Robinson
PJ Williams
Arthur Maulet
Justin Hardee
Natrell Jamerson

I dont get the PJ Williams cut hype. If hes your 4th corner, youve got a pretty good secondary.

Safety(4)
Kurt Coleman
Marcus Williams
Vonn Bell
Chris Banjo

Special Teams(3)
K Wil Lutz
P Thomas Morstead
LS Zach Wood

To me, the last 3 guys in are
Jayrone Elliot
Natrell Jamerson
Dan Arnold

Last 3 out
Hooman
Will Clapp
TLL

Good list.

Don't agree on Davison getting cut, but good list besides that imo. I'd put Davison in & take Stupar or Jayrone Elliot out.

Agree on PJ Williams as well. He'll have a spot if he's healthy (we might even keep him if he's injured & wait until he's healthy). I do think we'll keep 7 CB's as well. You can call Jamerson a Safety if you want, but I think we keep 11 db's total.

I'd be surprised if Bushrod gets cut.

Quarterbacks(3)
Drew Brees
Tom Savage
Taysom Hill

This is a spot where we may scan the waiver wire after roster cuts. We're not "bad" but could we use improvement in the area? I think most would agree. Everyone loves the upside on Hill.

Running backs(4)
Alvin Kamara
Jonathan Williams
Boston Scott
Zach Line

I don't see Trey Edmunds or Shane Vereene being more valuable than some of the quality depth guys we have in the offensive and defensive trenches.

Wide Receivers(5)
Michael Thomas
Ted Ginn Jr.
Cameron Meredith
Tre’Quan Smith
Brandon Tate

4 are a lock. Smith may end up having 2nd most catches on the team. Tate has won the return job imo.

Tight ends(3)
Ben Watson
Josh Hill
Dan Arnold

Hoo is injured. Ben gives you Hoo's previously needed blocking prowess. Keep Arnold and see if you can catch lightning in a bottle with him.

Offensive line(9)
Ryan Ramczyk
Terron Armstead
Max Unger
Larry Warford
Andrus Peat
Rick Leonard
Will Clapp
Cameron Tom
Josh LeRebeus

We can't trust our health here. I also don't think any of these guys clear waivers if cut. Keep your strength.

Defensive line(9)
Cam Jordan
Alex Okafor
Trey Hendrickson
Marcus Davenport
Sheldon Rankins
Tyler Davison
David Onyemata
Mitchell Loewen
Devaroe Lawrence

The versatility here is astounding. 6 of the 9 can play in or out. 3 are big line of scrimmage anchors. Again, let's dominate both sides of the trenches.

Linebackers(6)
Demario Davis
A.J. Klein
Manti Te’o
Alex Anzalone
Craig Robertson
Kikaha

This is probably the toughest spot to pick. Elliott, Kikaha, or Stupar. I'm leaning Kikaha because he gives you 3 for 1: LB, DE, ST

Cornerbacks(7)
Marshon Lattimore
Ken Crawley
Patrick Robinson
PJ Williams
Arthur Maulet
Justin Hardee
Natrell Jamerson

Hopefully Kamrin Moore makes the PS. I like what Maulet Hardee, and Jamerson have brought to the table.

Safety(4)
Kurt Coleman
Marcus Williams
Vonn Bell
Chris Banjo

Weakest position group on the team. MW= Star. Coleman? Bell? Banjo? .... Haven't done anything to convince me that they won't be targeted in pass game.

Special Teams(3)
K Wil Lutz
P Thomas Morstead
LS Zach Wood

We're so stupidly solid here.

If you want a "hot take" I wouldn't be surprised if Klein was cut. Probably not, because of the cap hit, but next year for sure.

Unless he has a breakout year in 2018...I agree with this. His contract makes it impossible to cut him this year though.

2018 cap hit - 5.2 mil
2018 dead cap hit - 6.5 mil

If we did cut him in 2018...we would actually be paying an extra 1.3 mil for him not to play.

Last thing I saw it was just bruised ribs. Still think he's the 4th best CB on this team at least

Yeah honestly I was thinking about bumping Stupar out to keep Bushrod for o line depth. But from all the TC media availabilities it sounds like Sean Payton is putting a premium on special teams. He talks all the time about the “right” 53, so I kept Stupar.

I agree, but I find it as no disrespect towards the group. MW is our FS of the future. Bell and Kurt arent elite in coverage, but are solid in the run game. I really do hope the addition of Kurt sparks a fire in Bell’s arse to get him to the next level.

I actually agree with your positional numbers. I'd rather keep 9 OL instead of 4 RB's.

QB(3) - Brees, Savage, Hill

I think Savage is a lock b/c he's the guy that's going to be helping Brees on the sideline. He's been studying the system all off-season, & I doubt they'll trust someone to come in this late to help Brees. Unless they decide to hire Luke McCown off the couch...Savage is the #2 imo.

Hill stays b/c of special teams imo. Barrett to the PS.

RB(3) - Kamara, J. Williams, Scott

I don't think Vereen or Edmunds are good enough to keep when we could use another OL. I guess I could see us picking up a RB after final cuts, but I can't see us going light on OL depth for either of Vereen/Edmunds. Edmunds to the PS.

FB(1) - Line

WR(5) - Thomas, Ginn, Meredith, Tre'Quan, Tate

I'm pretty confident about these WR picks. I can't see Tommylee staying around if Tate makes the team. Kirkwood & Carr to the PS.

TE(3) - Watson, Hill, Arnold

This is a complete guess on Arnold. Hooman could make it if he gets healthy, John Phillips is a legit blocker, & I guess Garrett Griffin could be an option as well.

I'm just giving Arnold the edge b/c of his upside in the passing game & the fact that Hooman is banged up. Yelder to the PS.

OL(9) - Armstead, Peat, Unger, Warford, Ramczyk, Bushrod, Tom, LeRibeus, Leonard

I think we end up keeping 9 guys here. It was hard to leave off Clapp, but he's kind of redundant with Tom & LeRibeus. LeRibeus can line up as your 6th OL (like last year).

If Bushrod can't play RT, then who's the backup RT? We may end up needing Leonard or Ola. Clapp & Wozniak to the PS.

ST(3) - Lutz, Morstead, Wood

DL(9) - Jordan, Okafor, Davenport, Hendrickson, Loewen, Rankins, Davison, Onyemata, Lawrence

Muhammad & Stallworth to the PS. Alex Jenkins also to the PS, but he doesn't count against the 10 max PS roster.

LB(6) - Davis, Klein, Te'o, Anzalone, Robertson, Stupar

The only reason I kept Stupar over Jayrone Elliot is b/c Stupar can give you a decent spot start if needed. Elliot might be better on special teams, but I gave the spot to Stupar. The #6 LB spot is really the only thing I'm a little uncertain on for defensive positional guessing. I'd take both Stupar & Elliot over Kikaha.

CB(7) - Lattimore, Crawley, PRob, PJ Williams, Maulet, Hardee, Jamerson

Kamrin Moore to the PS.

S(4) - M.Williams, Bell, Coleman, Banjo

PS (10 max players...Alex Jenkins doesn't count against the max 10)
01 - QB Barrett
02 - RB Edmunds
03 - WR Kirkwood
04 - WR Carr
05 - TE Yelder
06 - OL Clapp
07 - OL Wozniak
08 - DT Stallworth
09 - DE Muhammad
10 - DE Alex Jenkins
11 - CB Kamrin Moore

Ehhh yeah that group or the TEs.

I’ve always thought Josh Hill was under appreciated! Did you see his block on the 2 pt conversion to tie the redskins last year??
When he dominates Deangelo Hall?? Beautiful.

With that said, if Ben Watson is banged up to start the year or misses time.. we are paper thin.

Good news is that we're getting some special teams snaps from odd positions...like QB (Hill) & DL (Loewen). Those 2 making the team should help out on rounding out the roster.

We should have the horses
QB - Taysom Hill
RB - Boston Scott, not sure if Jonathan Williams plays ST.
WR - Brandon Tate, not sure if Meredith or Tre'Quan plays ST.
TE - Josh Hill, not sure if Arnold plays ST.
DL - Mitchell Loewen
LB - Robertson, Stupar/Elliot
CB - Hardee, Maulet, Jamerson, not sure if Crawley or PJ Williams plays ST.
S - Bell, Banjo, not sure if Coleman plays ST.

Kamrin Moore is pretty good on ST's. I think we're too loaded at CB for him to make the team, but he's another possibility. Edmunds at RB as well.

I think you keep both. Tate isn't overly explosive, but he's a natural returner that doesn't screw up very often. You also have Ginn as your 3rd returner if needed. Hell, Kamara as well...if needed for a kick return.

I just think you have to keep Tate, b/c you know exactly what you're getting. Scott might be better, but I don't think it would be wise to assume that he'll work out as a returner. Ginn is a decent option as well, but I'd rather not have to depend on him catching a punt cleanly with defenders around him.

We're in a much better position than we were last year with returners. That much is sure.

Carr hasn't really done much at all in the pre-season. I'd like to stash him on the PS, but if NE wants him...they can have him imo.
