Yes. Roddy White's hands are garbage. I'd say maybe to your question if Roddy caught all those balls he drops. But I'd take Colston over him no doubt.

I limited it to 1st rounders because I was reading a list of saints 1st round picks. I was too lazy to expand so I thought we'd discuss 1st round.

I nominate this thread as a contender for "Worst Thread of the Year" 2013.

So much FAIL!

Only judging drafts on first rounds, calling the Saints not great drafters when they've drafted some of the top players in the league, saying White is better than Colston, saying Malcolm Jenkins and Reggie Bush were absolutely terrible pickups, saying Ryan is a solid NFL QB.......

I kind of agree that our first rounders don't seem to be impactful like we would expect them to be.

Ingram and Jordan are to early to tell. Robinsdon was a BPA so it might be a couple of seasons before he really cracks into the lineup ahead of Greer and Porter. I think he is coming along though.

I disagree about Malcolm Jenkins. He is good.

Sedrick Ellis has been here long enough and has not made the impact that a top 10 DL pick is expected to make. Espescially considering we traded up to get him.

I never liked the Meachem pick. A a few big plays a year does not equal first round pick. This was a bad pick from day one and everyone knows it by now. Should have picked defense.

Reggie Bush- while he NEVER lived up to the #2 pick overall, who else were we going to pick? No one could have expected he would be as poor a RB as he was. While he was a great returner and a good receiver, his decoy abilities waned quickly and it says something that he was so easily replaced with someone better.

I disagree with the notion tha tthye are bad in the draft though. We have developed a lot of good players from the later rounds. And considering our defense, I can't blame Loomis for constantly drafting defense for the last few years.

Something had to give though. We had like 8 or 9 first and second round picks starting on defense. Either Loomis was horrible at making picks or Williams wasn't doing enough with them. I guess we will know next year.

I think it has been explained a couple times already in this thread. Half of your list have been major contributors and you left off some of the greatest late round draft picks in Saints history (Colston, Evans, Nicks..).

Porter and Harper were "off the radar" picks that seemed to do pretty well for us considering most of us were like who the frick when drafted.

well if you expand you get to include Colston, Nicks, Evans, and Graham who were all steals in the draft. All of those guys are near the top of the NFL at their positions.

We also have done pretty well with rookie free agents, which I consider to be a part of the draft process

Did not say that. Said Bush had his moments which he did, said Jenkins was a liability this year which he was. I would think a 1st round DB should be able to cover a TE

saying Ryan is a solid NFL QB.......
a lot worse QBs out there, a lot worse. I would say more than 1/2 the league's starters are worse than him

Weren't they both 2nd round picks? Harper was our 2nd rounder in 05? I kept expecting him to come around but while he is great at sacking the QB and filling the hole and helping out against the run, he is horrible in the passing game.

Come around, he's a multiple time probowl player and a key player on a super bowl winning team. His coverage was better in the earlier years but your expectations of a 2nd round pick are out of whack.

ETA: Were you waiting on jon Stinchcomb to come around 6-7 years in his career too?

no it isnt. Gameplay, stats, and rings are in Colston's favor

That means that 1/2 are better than him. I dont consider possible middle of the pack as solid. He's slightly above average at best.

Malcolm was an awesome pickup, he was a huge part of the Superbowl season and is one of the better free safetys in the league and one of if not the best player on our D going into next season.

Bush was a great pickup in the first round, if you disagree, then who should we have drafted instead?
