I'm guessing retirement would accelerate the dummy years on a new contract?

Another 5 year deal with two real contract years best solution?

That would put him at 41 at the end of the deal, not sure we should go past that.

3 max “real years” if forced and that’s a stretch. Hopefully 2. But if the guy is still playing at a high level after two, we will pay him again. He’s gotta know that.

Even a slightly weakened arm at 85% is better than the other options.

This is also why I want Landy. His knock is a lot of his catchy happen close to the line of scrimmage. Okay that works great with Brees.

Brees knows he's the perfect fit for a Payton offense.

Best part of the article is where it says this all has to be decided by March 14th. If this stretched into the summer, the shite-posting about it would be unprecedented

Until he re-signs, Brees is the top free-agent quarterback

Posted by PFT on February 17, 2018, 9:30 AM EST PFT

quote:

Most regard Washington quarterback Kirk Cousinsas the best available free-agent quarterback.

And that probably will be the case, when March 14 rolls around.

For now, however, there’s an even better quarterback set to hit the open market.

It’s Drew Brees. Signed to a six-year, $60 million deal by the Saints 12 years ago as an unrestricted free agent despite having more than 20 studs in his shoulder, Brees is now healthy.

He’s also 39. But he has shown no signs of slippage in his play, and he could instantly make a bad team good (like the Browns), an average team very good (like the Jets or Broncos), a good team great (like the Cardinals), and a great team a Super Bowl champion (like the Vikings).

quote:

MDS pointed out that the Cleveland cap space could support an obscene offer, but Brees likely would regard the Browns as a rebuild that will take more years than he has left.

If he’s going to leave a Saints team that already has all the signs of being a championship contender in 2018, he’d likely do it only for another championship contender.

Anyway, those are just some words I typed to tee up a video that presents our top five free-agent quarterbacks.

We need to stop bashing Brees about his salary.

On the open market, it would be a feeding frenzy for his services.

Forgot the cap liability after the 14th of this month.

I can't imagine the FO fricking around with this unless Brees is not being reasonable with his new contract.

I highly doubt that a deal isn't reached in the next 7 days but does he become an UFA if it's not done? They can't franchise him, right?

I'm not even sure it matters if we take Brees at his word that he doesn't want to leave. Sure the Browns could throw 1billion dollars his way and give him ownership of the team in 8 days but on day 15 he could still re-sign with NO, right?

Don't be such a snowflake. I finally had time to read the article and it answered the questions I had. Ironically, it was what the whole article was about that you posted.

So it seems like you felt the need to post it/ask the questions/discuss it as well. Good day, sir.

I'd be willing to sign Brees to a 1 year prove-it deal.
That's the best deal for both parties.

Brees has 3-4 years left. Give him a 3 year deal with 4th year optional

the franchise tag deadline just passed. that's just common knowledge amongst nfl fans... but we know you are just a typical warm water falcon fan.

Correct. If Cousins is gonna get 30 million, Drew would command that, even at his age.

Saints are probably trolling everyone and will announce this deal on the 13th.
