Meh, the players were also asking for the exact same CBA as last time, which leads me to believe they got a good deal . I just know, looking at suggested compromise, it looked like a fair deal to me.

You are quite misinformed. If there is a site, please find it and post it for everyone to see its validity.

LINK
The above link takes you to a release of the owner's final proposal that was met with a demand for 10 years of audited financial reports (with a short window to approve it).

LINK

quote:

The summary of the offer indicates significant concessions regarding player safety, an agreement to defer the debate regarding whether the regular season should be expanded, and an offer to use third-party arbitration for appeals of violations of the substance abuse policy and the steroids policy.

The summary doesn’t provide many details regarding the revenue split, which highlights that money was the primary sticking point — and that the league didn’t feel particularly compelled to boast about the specifics of the offer.

Still, how big of a sticking point was the money? When De Smith says that the gap as to the extra $1 billion that the NFL wanted to take off the top had dropped to $650 million and that the league wanted to split the difference (presumably to $325 million), that number needs to be assessed while considering the fact that the union gets only 59.6 cents of every dollar. Thus, if the owners would have been taking another $325 million off the top, the players would have been giving up only $193.7 million.

My biggest beef with the players was that it seemed like a decent enough to deal to at least counter-offer on. I can understand that they didn't want it, but its still a "negotiation".

A lot of it is the players are partners with the owners. This situation doesn't compare to the auto workers union. The auto workers are easily replacable in a non highly skilled position where as NFL players are the cream of the crop of there talent pool. My five year old nephew could be an auto worker but he couldn't play in the NFL.

Owners can't have this both ways. They don't want to show books, fine but they can't skirt antitrust law wout a Players Union and a new CBA. Going to have to give on one of these things and there is a chance a court or Congress forces these books open if this goes to far anyway

Technically speaking, they could go on without an overriding rules pertaining to the draft, free agency, salary minimums or maxes, etc.

so one team could theoretically attempt to "buy" a championship by signing the best free agent players they can afford financially. But the owners don't want to do that because, well it makes them look bad and it'll hurt the weaker franchises which are needed for competition over the long term.

Brees has gone from one of my favorite players to someone I do not respect.

Why don't the owners ask each player to furnish audited financials for ten years and reveal how these idiot players spend their money.

Cancel the season and hire replacement players and certify a new union. These millionaire punks need to be thrown out in the street.

Don't forget...when baseball did this....they never recovered....football headed the same way...

Aren't you tired of paying through the nose to watch millionaires not play hard all season until the playoffs? And not the bastards want more?

In the union/management partnership that is the NFL (and all pro leagues) the owners have no RIGHT to demand the players take less. They simply have the ability to negotiate. Just like the players.

Anyone who sees the players as employees and the owners as bosses has no understanding of pro league management and player unions. Basically until you think of it as a mutual partnership then you should probably just not comment.

and lol at someone saying that Ford and GM don't have to show their books in labor negotiations. Are you retarded?

they could do so if they wanted to, but it would serve zero purpose. The owners, on the other hand, opted out of their current agreement claiming that they aren't making enough money. The players, who have an agreement with the NFL, want the owners to prove this to them (the NBA has shown its players unions their books before).

this. While it's technically a lockout, the players aren't going to play dice with the owner offers at this point. In theory, it's also a strike. Nobody wants to "play ball".

Players don't wanna deal with the bullshite? Go play football somewhere else.

Let's see how much the NFL owners lose when they have second rate players out there.

Yeah, children get their brains fricked up and struggle to walk after a dozen surgeries whenever they finish playing their games.

Throw a bunch of Voodoo players on the field wearing Saints uniforms? I think I'll stick to just CFB until the best are on the field again.

This comes with the job, they know going in that injury is a possibility. No sympathy here!
