Not YET they haven't. They will/would have. Otherwise, why negotiate anything?

Not once have the players asked for more money during this negotiation. That is a FACT. I don't expect anyone to feel sorry for us

I love Drew Brees as much as the next Saints fan, because I think he's a great human being.

that being said, he's still human. You don't put the first part of that statement up, then the next statement is an exact reversal of the intention of the first statement. Well, idea, not technically statement.

Is that so? Put a bunch of replacement players out there to play shitty football and see how much money the owners make off of them.

If anyone of us average joes asked our boss to look at his books we would be laughed out of a job. I am with the owners on this one. Unions are turrible!!!

NFL is not exactly an average joe type of business. The products in this business are unique and cannot be replaced by anything coming off the assembly line.

If the owners were not asking for a 20% cut in player salaries at a time when league profits are at a maximum, then you would be right in saying the union has no right to know the bottom line.

What if your boss asked you to take a HUGE pay cut despite leading them to record earnings? How would you feel about that? Add the fact that their aren't others on the open market that could perform their jobs, and that makes it a big pile of bullshite on the owners part.

Their are definitely some problems with the current CBA, but I feel like the owners are successfully using it as a scapegoat for the battle between themselves. The worst thing that could happen IMO is for Jerry Jones to get his wish and the large market teams get more power. Another thing that I would like to see remain intact would be the franchise tag and restricted free agency. I don't want the NFL having Lebron and Carmelo situations.

The rookie pay scale is good for both parties IMO, and the owners SHOULD open their books up to the players if they aren't lying about the money they are making.

The players were trying to compromise with owners, but the owners can't even agree with each other so they are just wasting the players time.

They aren't asking to cut salaries at all and the fact of the matter is there last proposal had the salary cap at 164 million in 2014...25% more than the last cap in 09. I'd be interested in hearing what the floor would be be but it would probably remain in the 90% range

uh, they are definitely trying to cut the players salaries. They want to take an extra $1 billion in addition to the $1 billion they have already get. That is absurd. You think that they can take $1 billion away from the players and not cut the salaries?

bingo.

if your boss is asking you to take less money than you had agreed to b/c the company is losing money you damn sure have the right to see the books.

What the hell are you talking about?

They are negotiating to keep the old deal. The owners said the old deal was crap and want more money off the top

Let me ask you then.. How are they going to raise the salary cap by 25% in 4 years if salaries are set to decrease? The extra billion, which was a pipe dream, is from expanding revenue streams along with the short term gains from things such as the rookie scale. A scale in which the NFLPA is ok with and one the owners have deferred to the players plan.

The reality is the players wanted something they shouldn't get or deserve in terms of full transparency of financial statements. After reading what the owners proposed in terms of resolution to this problem, it is bullshite in terms of the players demand. The owners were willing to give quite a bit and the players would only accept there position. Personally I'm floored by this lack of movement on this issue as I sided with the players in the beginning but not anymore. The ball was in there court with a strong proposal from the owners and they de-certified because they always planned to.

The players may have a gripe...However, when i make what i make, I really don't give a shite about how someone makes 400-500k as a base and they need more. I don't care about the flipping owners who don't want to concede too much. The NFL exists because the working man enjoys a distraction from everyday job bullshite. Bring in the scabs.

Trola, you are buying the owners bullshite. There are some site out there that demonstrate why the owners math is a dog and pony show. It's bullshite. They are DEFINITELY asking the players to take a cut over time, they have just done a good job of framing it in a way that makes it seem that they aren't.

Forget proving to the players they need more money, the public should demand a look at these books IMO

The public should demand your books to see how much you are giving in charities. Sorry, but as soon as the players see the books they'll comment about them on twitter. Also, I'd love to know just how many of the media/general public could actually read financial documents of any sort of complexity?
