For whatever reason, these players feel they are obligated to complete transparency from their employers and also that they have the right to review their financial reports line by line....Sorry, doesn't work that way.
First, league vs. union negotiations go way beyond the lone boss-to-worker negotiation. There's a truckload of more money and people involved which will be bound up in an agreement (hopefully).
Also, the owners want a billion more $$ off the top to cover their expenses they say--a BILLION MORE. It's only fair that the union ask for some justification for this. I agree the owners are under no obligation to show them, but they need to provide some basis for justifying their request if they want it to be taken seriously. I don't blame the union & players; I wouldn't trust them either.

The players and owners are partners, not employer/employee. Huge difference.

And as for lack of healthcare.........join the rest of the country. At the least you had an advantage to save some of the MILLIONS you made to prepare for a loss of job or other bad financial situations, like any normal individual should......but you didn't. So don't blame the owners for your lack of financial preparedness.
The average American doesn't have a job with a 100% injury rate and an average career of 3.5 years.

I'm not biased one way or the other, but I'm not gonna pin this on the owners just because they have money.
You're lying through your keyboard. Your language earlier in the above quoted post shows that you're firmly on the owners' side. I'm sorry that you have no soul.

You can objectively come to a conclusion about this situation without being biased, just because I feel the players aren't entitled to see the books, doesn't mean I'm pro-owner.
And as for 3.5 year career....you know the facts before you start. As a player, you made a decision to have a career in a field that has a short life. Not my fault you made that choice and now you're having trouble.
Players aren't the innocent party here (nor the owners). For you to think so is absurd.

You're not a labor pool going through a collective bargaining process that involves splitting up a 9 billion dollar pie. Just saying

pretty sure GM and Ford don't open up their financial to work out their union deals either.

Publicly traded companies have a lot more financial info available then the NFL. Auto Unions get more info from that than the NFLPA gets.
Also UAW and auto unions don't get the benefit of having such a large public face on their labor deals. Not every situation is exactly the same, so the whole idea of "well they don't do it why should we" doesn't really move me to the owners side

The NFL players are just fricking players. The owners should have the ability to split up their profits however the frick they want. It's the owner's league, not the players. Players just get the benefit of making millions of fricking dollars for playing a child's sport. I'm pro owners I think.

If I were an owner, no way in hell would I open my books for all to see.

I am not taking sides at all. Enough money for both groups to be satisfied with IMO so they are both full of it 99.9% of the time.
Be adults, make it happen. Or be children and show America your arse

Is that so? Put a bunch of replacement players out there to play shitty football and see how much money the owners make off of them.

Of course not. Because u run the risk of the public finding out how much u make and then all those PSLs and requests for tax money to fund stadiums, improvements, practice facilities seem outrageous.
Forget proving to the players they need more money, the public should demand a look at these books IMO

I'd be willing to bet if union decertified, 99% of the players would be crawling back to the league to play for whatever x amount of thousands/millions of dollars they'd be paid. What else the players going to go do, go work at Academy sports & outdoors?

Not once have the players asked for more money during this negotiation. That is a FACT. I don't expect anyone to feel sorry for us
