While it would probably help the team become more competitive, Drew Brees shouldn't have to restructure his deal. The saints agreed to the contract and were stupid enough to have his contract have a cap hit of 27 million. It's their problem, not his.

It might help the team win?? That would be a good reason don't you think?

Restructures don't necessarily mean less money. The players actually get their money sooner when they convert base salary to a signing bonus. It's a frequently used move that benefits both sides.

Restructuring wouldnt do much.

We'd need an extension for a $20 million rate, which is now a discount

So its Loomis fault, I agree

Drew played it well and got the city behind his back and made it tough on Loomis not to pay him.

Alright sure, that's a possibility, I addressed that. However, it's not like the saints didn't know about the humongous cap hit of Brees' contract. they agreed to it. There should never be any pressure on a player to take a pay cut to keep his team competitive. That is management's responbility. Why should he take a pay cut when the owners and management don't take a pay cut

Restructuring would make next year freaking laughable.

2015: 26.4mil
2016: 27.4mil

how about...

2015: 17.51mil
2016: 36.29mil

Can't take any one seriously who said that Brees was a bad FA pickup.

He got the city and team behind him by playing like a 1st ballot Hall of Famer

This "Drew Brees needs to restructure" group thought is beyond idiotic.

1) he has stated he would restructure and the team has not thought it necessary

2) He accounts for 26 million of cap space. That leaves us with 119 million of space to build a team.

3) We have not been good at drafting and many of our big signings have been misses.

4) We are not in cap hell. We easily get under the cap every year and still are active in FA

5) Graham was not a salary cap trade. He was asset that still garnered a good return, but he is declining, often injured, and is reportedly a locker room titty-baby

I would not restructure him at this point. Let him play out his last 2 years and make him prove he is not "falling off." I think the Saints have a better gamble on this one since he is approaching 40.

And the fact we had a top 5 defense and a top 5 run game has nothing to do with the success we had Pre- 100 million dollar Drew?

That's an honest question for everyone that will not be answered fully

I mean, his contract was backloaded and he is finally getting that money he deserves.

Extend him next year and make the most of the cap into a bonus.

Alright, I admit that I made an error. I'm sorry, it was my fault. I now understand that restructuring doesn't mean a pay cut. However, it still doesn't cover up the negligence of Loomis. While my points on taking a pay cut were based of an error, what I said was logical if it were true. So do yourself a favor Lake Vegas Tiger, stop being so insecure about yourself that you have to insult people over the Internet to fulfill some form of pathetic self satisfaction and instead you should just discuss sports, the purpose of this site.

Nah, but his 70.6% completion, 4388 yards, 8.54 Y/A, 34 TDs-11INTs 109.6 passer rating got us to the playoffs...

Then his 70.6% completion, 732 yards, 7.18 Y/A, 8 TDs-0INTs 117 passer rating helped vastly for us.

Considering the fact that we couldn't run the ball vs. Indy very well (18 - 51 yards 2.8YPC), he pretty much did the damage.
