This will go a long way to let us know if Jameis is the successor.
Or if he gets picked up in FA we could get a compensatory pick
Worst case scenario....he eats a bunch of L's

Since it's Tuesday with nothing good to talk about... what if Winston not only is adequate, but very good? What if Winston does add a vertical game to this offense? Any chance that Brees could lose spot during this time esp if he's out till say Carolina game?

Yeah, I don't think so either, but I sure hope this becomes something to talk about

Brees is one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game. The organization and city of New Orleans owe a great deal to the man for his career here. Winston could prove he’s the successor, but with Payton at the helm especially this is still Drew’s Saints team. And he’s earned that many times over. Looked fantastic just last week H2H with Tom freaking Brady ... for the second time this season.
This of course assuming Brees can come back healthy and not be a detriment.

Winston would have to be playing at a MVP level for at least a month straight to make Sean even start to consider it

Uh, well no way Winston is Comparable to Breeze. As Breeze is Not to Brady.
One regular season game with an entire different team, coach, etc is definitely not fair. Brady wins Championships.

Belichick and his #1 Defenses win championships. Brady is JAG among great quarterbacks

It's great when you can replace a 5k passer with another 5k passer.

This will go a long way to let us know if Jameis is the successor.
Jameis- former #1 pick, really has performed solidly considering what he walked into in Tampa. Established himself as the starter, didn't crash and burn like a lot of picks have. He's an NFL QB, we just don't know if he's average, or could progress to be elite.
Saints- they've been delaying the move to get Brees' heir for awhile now. Seems like until last season with Teddy, the backup has been a guy who wasn't drafted, so this was Drew or bust. Brees is old and even in great health, he'd be near the end now. With the mounting injuries, that decision is closer (at least to the business side).
The choices are:
1) tank and hope to draft someone
2) find a guy through trade or free agency
Tanking- you don't know who's coming out beyond this draft, you don't know if there's someone even worth it. And you don't get to choose unless you can get to #1, which would be very hard on the fans.
Option 2- trade; nobody is going to trade a promising young QB to the Saints.
Free agency- you're not going to let a great prospect walk. You might not chase your backup if his value raises, eventually you might let the older guy go if you think you found your own replacement.
Given his age and potential, Jameis is an absolute steal. He's barely beyond the draft age, has lots of time to hone his game. And he's also not raw, he's got a few years experience. And we're able to plug him right in.

Oooooooooooooooh OK so Brees is just an average QB ?

no you Simp - it means they do not have to wholesale revamp the offense for him - but hey, don't let that stop you from believing your own drivel

You do realize that the formula didn't change last year when Teddy took over ? Payton plugged him in, had him run basically the same offense and that is more than likely what will occur with Winston unless you have a better idea coach.

I get it , you have a hard on for Winston. I'm not particularly a fan of his either but I am a fan of this team and any thing that will motivate him to excel at least while Brees is out works for me. Brees , this team and this fan base deserve a friggin' break.
