I think he has a chance to be a really good pro, but several things concern me.

Has he grown up? Character issues have always been a problem for him, and leaving school as a rsSophomore might be a risk.

He's an upright runner. He's got perhaps the best size for any RB in the draft this year and runs with good power and balance, but his torso is straight up almost all the time. He needs to learn how to run behind his pads because defenders in the NFL are not just going to bounce off of him or just throw their bodies at him (unless he plays the Eagles and Jenkins attempts to tackle him).

Speed. To be a good running back, you at least need burst though not necessarily long speed. Hill does a fine job breaking away, but I'm not sold on his burst through the hole. I will say, though, that I could definitely stand to watch more video of him as well as all of the other guys I listed.

I do agree that Hill is an upright runner. Size of a power back, but rarely lowers his shoulder and runs over someone.

But, the thing with Hill is that hes not a Marshawn Lynch type power back. Even though he has the size to do that. Hes a diff type of RB. Hes a big guy that is still powerful, but is at his best in the open field where he can use his great vision and foot work. And even though hes not a true power back, hes a tough tackle for LBs because he still is so big and strong and can still break tackles. Hes more slippery than he is powerful. Hes comparable to Arian Foster and Matt Forte IMO. Those are 2 big, strong RBs that arent necessarily power backs. And still very successful in the NFL.

And at times, he does have happy feet when entering the hole. But most of that is when there isnt a hole and hes slowing down trying to find some type of hole to get something. When the hole is there, he has good burst. And I cant remember seeing someone catch him from behind. In the SEC, where speed is all over the field.

He set an SEC record in YPC this past year with 6.9 YPC. You cant do that without being an explosive player with good burst.

Talent wise, he is the best RB in the draft IMO. But, off the field concerns are an issue. And, I dont think hes head and shoulders above the other RBs in terms of talent. Tre Mason, Hyde, Sankey, etc are all talented players in their own right. No doubt about that. But I do think Hill has a little bit more talent than those guys.

Plus, he only played 2 years of college football and didnt get that many carries compared to the other guys. Hes got a lot of tread left on his tires. He had 345 carries total at LSU. Mason had 317 last year alone, and over 500 carries total. Sankey had 644 total carries at Washington. Hyde had 523 carries. Carey had 723 carries.

To me the most interesting thing is Carlos Hyde being rated so high. It's not just you either, since he's widely viewed as a top-5, if not THE top RB in this year's class. I don't like him very much.

What's there not to like?

Seriously

He's not a special player at all. I think his stats and stock owe a lot of credit to that mauling offensive line and the creative system Malzahn has.

Tre Mason rushed for over 1,000 yards as a sophomore, before Malzahn was there. 5.8YPC that year too.

His stats this year were a bit inflated due to the system, but he still is a very good RB. And he had some ridiculous runs where he broke tackles and made people miss.

Hes a good RB. In the mold of Doug Martin and Ray Rice. Short and stocky, compact, thick build, explosive, and can catch out the backflield.

Mason is really explosive as well. 38.5inch vert and a 12'6 broad jump, top 5 out of all RBs.

You have Shayne Skove ranked top 5...

I really want him later in the draft.

A lot of player rankings has Skov in the top 5 for ILBs.

Solid list Lester.

Mason will be a top 5 RB within 3 years of being in the NFL.

You're crazy if you don't think he's a special player. His burst is insane, he can be an absolute workhorse, and he get vertical better than anyone in this class by a country mile.

Jeremy Hill 3rd-4th
Charles Sims 3rd-4th
Lache Seastrunk 4th-5th
Jerrick Mckinnon 5th-6th
Deanthony Thomas 6th-7th

Outside of Hill and Sims I have listed players with a complimentary skillset that would mesh well in an identified role within our runningback committee. All possess NFL speed capable of turning into big plays. With the investment being no more than a marginal pick.

With Hill or Sims however in theory you could create a young corps that would also feature Robinson and Ingram forming arguably the best young stable of backs in the NFL with the intent being to extend the life of Drew Brees under center. The investment would be a bit higher but so is the ceiling of either as a player considering both are in the running for best back in the draft.

*i am not saying these are the top 5 RBs in the draft. Merely listing different backs at different tiers who caught my eye one way or another.

I just checked the list of RBs for this draft... completely forgot about Isaiah Crowell. 5* RB from UGA that was awesome as a freshman. Off the field issues are def there. Kicked out of UGA and went to a D2 school. But talent wise, hes a legit NFL RB. Could be a huge steal in the 6th-7th round for someone, if he can keep his shite together. Someone to keep an eye on.

Yup...I posted about him a few weeks ago...Lots of people forget that he was a 5* player coming out of high school and he had a good freshman year.

I would love Crowell in the 5th or 6th. He might actually be the most talented runner in this draft. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more impressive this rb class looks. It's very deep.
