I was thinking back on the game and it occurred to me that I saw Peening basically choke-slam somebody yesterday. Was it Parsons?

I've never in all my years seen a guy as bad as Penning was in the pre-season. Now, in watching him for 2 weeks, he's not just servicable, he's a weapon! That, and Fuaga looking like a 5-yr. all-pro, have made this team completely different from what I think most of us expected. I also certainly give major props to Kubiak. His scheme is defintely taking advantage of our skill players.

Fun to watch again!

Getting Penning out in space allows him to do what he does best. The scheme fits him well. The constant mis-direction and play action makes it easier to pass block as well.

I think it was on AKs first TD by the goal line. Penning was on someone and as they tried to get to him Penning placed a left hand on his chest and pushed him over and out.

Penning has been above average run blocking but his pass blocking has still been atrocious. I will get slammed for saying it but it’s the truth. Kudos to the offense and Kubiak for not having many obvious passing downs through the first 2 weeks. That has masked Penning inability in pass protection through play calling and in game situations.

On both of Shaheeds long TDs, penning got away with holds that will definitely get called at some point this season. I’ll gladly eat crow if he becomes at least average in pass pro.

What are you talking about? The guy was directly in front of Penning, there was no hold on the long play to shaheed

I won't say atrocious. He's getting better but he even admitted he has alot of work to do. If you watch every down and focus on him instead of the ball you'll see his deficiencies. He's not terrible, he's learning a new position and a new offense.

There's times where he gets beat and it doesn't matter because of the scheme, other times he's mauling bitches out there. By the end of the year he'll be an All Pro.

I don't think anyone will slam you for what you have said here.

The only thing I will say is that in comparison to what I saw in preseason, I'll absolutely take what I have seen from him in pass protection at this point. I'm just glad he is on Carr's right side so that he will be able to see when he is about to get walloped by the DE if/when Penning blows it in pass protection.
I went from thinking he was an absolute liability to just a bad pass blocker and I'll take it.

If you fast forward in the clip to 20 second remaining mark, you will clearly see a hold.

Did you actually watch the clip?

He clearly releases him at the end so it wouldn’t be called a hold

Penning's pass blocking is still suspect but with the way Kubiak is having the OL/TE/RB roll from multiple angles to increase/help with protection is smart.

Just a much-needed fresh offensive scheme. The Payton offense was old and predictable.

Are you saying he released Parson after holding him? That’s exactly what I’m saying. Thanks for proving my point.

It was textbook hold, his head was behind Parsons body for over a second, he wasn’t directly in front of him like you mentioned in a previous post, which leads me to believe you didn’t actually watch the clip you posted.

No, I’m saying he releases him as Paraons tries to turn the corner because the ball is coming out.

He is nowhere near “atrocious” in pass blocking

It's not just that one play. He does it numerous times. He's still learning. I never focus on the ball. I watch the line. You'll see good plays in replay so anyone can see.

Again man, did you not watch the clip. Parson turned the corner well before the ball was released. He’s almost behind Carr when the ball is released, which would indicated he already turned the corner.

I’m sure teams will notify the league and we will see these holds called more often. I do think he’s improving but it’s a clear deficiency that wi get exploited in the coming weeks.
