QB is clearly the top spot on the field. Good teams have good QBs and bad teams don't.

Ryan Leaf is 6' 5" ...

I feel better with Daniel than i did with Brunell.

Not everyone can have Tom Brady holding the clipboard.

Daniel is an above-average backup QB. We won't win a Super Bowl with him at the helm, but that isn't why he's on the team. If Brees sprains something and is out for three weeks, I like our chances of going 2-1 in those three games with Daniel at QB.

90% of every team in the NFL is fricked if their starting QB goes down. Is Daniel really good? Maybe not.. but it could be wayyyyyy worse.

I like Daniel more so than most backups and even a few starters.

I think so. I can get my friend to talk to him at a wedding during the season, if needed.

On a scale of 1 - 10, taking in some of the obvious factors from last night, I'd give CD's performance a 7. Overthrew a few balls but showed excellent poise and composure.

My main concern with him was not getting the ball out quick enough on plays where the WRs were open for big gains (and a TD, in one case.) However, that may just be an issue that improves with more playing time.

To be honest, I see him doing one thing better than Drew does - when the defense closes in on him, he tucks the ball away and takes the sack. There's been way too many times since the beginning of last season where I see Drew either holding the ball too far out from his body or flinging crazy passes that have resulted in bad TOs.

Daniel has a few "flaws", just like all QBs do.

He's short- well, standing next to Drew on the sideline, he looked, if anything, a tad bit taller. In the pocket it looks like his motion and release is the same as Brees. So while he isn't 6'5", this is a non-issue for the Saints offense.

He holds the ball too long- this may well be a real problem, or he may just need more time. He DOES seem more decisive than last year, and I think the longer he stays in this system the better he will get at it.

He wasn't drafted- this is pointless too. Gabbert got picked in the 1st round, and I don't think he's any better, other than he's taller. In fact I'd say Daniel was better at Mizzou than Gabbert. Plus, we just watched Oakland with a few #1 picks at QB, and they looked bad (ok, Campbell looked fine). I'd take Daniel in our offense over Edwards or Boller.

Daniel is still just 24, and he seems to be picking things up. Give him a few more years as Brees' "little brother" and I think he'll be fine.

You mean like every other team in the NFL and their starting QB?

meh - I like CHase and would rather have him backing up Brees thatn most other backups out there.

I personally am far less concerned about the backup QB - as I am mor concerned about all the missed tackles - but thats for a different thread.

He has improved very steadily in his first few years. He is also leading the NFL in passing yards this preseason.

probably the only backup I would take over daniel atm.

I'm was thinking the other day that this board seemed pretty ranter free (compared to TR).. but the last few days have me doubting.
