Since there was a severe lack of production from the WR position last season, lets talk about the 2014-15 WRs.

Lets discuss roster spots and usage.

Here is the list (let me know if I missed anyone):

Currently on the roster (from team website):

Marques Colston
Chris Givens
Charles Hawkins
Robert Meachem
Joseph Morgan
Kenny Stills
Andy Tanner
Nick Toon

Drafted:

Brandin Cooks

Undrafted Free Agent (from the UDFA thread):

Seantavious Jones
Ja'Ron Hamm
Brandon Coleman

Ideal Scenario:
Colston
Cooks
Stills
Morgan
Toon (light has to come on for this guy)
Givens

If we only keep 5 at this point, i'd rather Givens than Toon. And I hope that some of our younger guys can beat out the Meachem on the roster. I call that as Ideal bc our development of these younger guys past 3 years will have paid off.

PS
Coleman

Toon, meachem, & Morgan could be expendable if any of these rooks show out. In the end I think they make it, but they better come to play.

I think Toon, from the current roster (not counting guys that have never taken and gameday snap) is in the most trouble with these young guys. Year 3 is here and the expectations are growing. Competition is stiff.

Morgan has to prove he can still get behind defenses after missing last season, too

Is it save to say that Colston, Stills, and Cooks are the only roster locks?

Pretty much.

The only thing Morgan has going for him, essentially, is speed.
With that ACL tear, his future is in question.

Colston
Cooks
Stills
Morgan
Meachem
Coleman

After Stills it's quite difficult to pick who will make the team. None of the rest impress me, but I do think Morgan makes it if he returns healthy. Our depth is concerning.

The depth that they have is unproven, as most team's depth is...since they don't play much.

The squad we are looking at....

Coslton, Stills, Cooks, Morgan and any combo of Toon/Coleman/Meachem/Givens, is a nice balance of Vet and Young guys that should make for a decent crop of WRs....better with a guy like Drew tossing to them.

Morgan has to prove he can do more than stretch the field. Stills is very fast and can do what morgan does.

Meachem gives you blocking and able to do morgan's job, just not as well. If we are committed to the run game, you can assume Meachem is going to make the team if no one else can block.

Going into the season, these 3 are locks:
Colston
Stills
Cooks

#4 and #5 are fair game for all.

Tanner

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure his eligibility for the Practice Squad is up.

I'm hoping the 3 year WR light bulb comes on for Toon this season. He's slightly behind schedule because he didn't have Payton his first year either. Meachem getting cut would be a good sign for the staff's faith in the young-ins. He'll be my marker on the subject.

Assuming 5, I'll predict: Colston, Stills, Cooks (guaranteed) with Toon and one of the UDFAs.

I think they're looking to keep 3 big bodied WRs to go along with Cooks and Stills. Just my opinion.

Tanner on the practice squad is like billy madison going back to kindergarten.
