So Young signs a one-year deal with the Saints worth up to $13 Million. Obviously for Young it is a chance to come to New Orleans and play his way into a future bigger deal.

So question going forward. I would imagine that Young would probably be hoping for a 3 or 4 year deal worth somewhere around $17-$20 Million per year which the Saints likely could not or would not pull the trigger on.

So does this set them up for a possible 3rd Round Comp pick by losing him in FA. If that is the case how much of the decision to sign him plays into it that knowing I having a one year player and a pick between 97-112.

Almost as if part of the $13 million is buying a 3rd round comp pick.

They would still be able to afford him by adding void years and pushing money into years where Cam, MT, Jameis and Demario will be off the books.

You know your team sucks when you sign a free agent and the only positive is we might get a compensatory pick when his contract expires

Lots of unknowns. I imagine Saints talked to him about long term contract.
Let's imagine he's healthy and has good year Stat wise. If he wants 15-20 a year the Saints would find a way.I have little doubt.

This gif almost fits perfectly, but still works here

Top edge rushers are in the $24-$28M a year w Bosa sitting at $34M. I think he's trying to get a team to justify putting him over $25M a year, maybe even over $30M. $17-$20M a year would have him valued in the 13th to 19th range, amongst edge rushers

People still think 15 mil will get you a good qb on a long-term contract

Well, we now know it’s up to a $13 million deal if he meets playing incentives.

To me, this is a case example of a prove-it deal. The Saints should get his best effort this year, because he’s looking for a big money long-term contract. If he plays well, it was worth $13 million. If he then leaves in free agency next year, we get something for it. I think this is a win for the Saints all the way around.

I don't understand why so many people dislike this deal.

This board has been wanting to sign former stars to 1 year "prove-it" deals for the past decade plus. We finally get a previous DROY on a 1 year prove-it and people are pissed?

He's talented but has very little production to speak of. 67 tackles and 16.5 sacks in 4 years. Its at best a 50/50 gamble no matter how you slice it and even if he does well he most likely will get a better long term deal somewhere else... And then we find out he needs neck surgery and no other team cleared him medically.

Lots of red flags

I wonder what Saints doctors saw that no other team saw, but I also remember Brees. Just let’s hope the Saints doctors know see something others didn’t.
