Who cares……

He’s already stolen 5 games worth of paychecks … and his past history of injuries continuing to occur … indicates he will be injured several times more during this season.

And .. wasn’t he given an extension by Loomis ???

He accounted for 25% of our pressures last season (No. 6 in the league). If he can come in and contribute that’s more than enough for what we need on this Dline. I’m rooting for him.

I know when we talk about the greats like Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor and TJ Watt, we talk about pressures.

Seriously though, QBs have all day to throw against us. And just because CY gets back there eventually with his only pass rush move, a bull rush, after the QB has had 4 seconds to go through all his progressions and gets a “pressure” doesn’t mean he’s any good. Young had more snaps that Granderson and Jordan last year and their sack numbers were identical. He’s a bottom tier DE.

We need a pass rusher in the next draft!

Not near as bad as you portray... saints are 14th in sacks. Young should help improve this

He had 5.5 sacks last year in 17 games (.32 sacks per game). Since he missed the first three games, we can expect him to have 3.5 to 4 sacks the rest of the year. Wahoo!!!

Don’t get me wrong, I wanted him to do well last year, but he didn’t. I’m hoping Staley uses him in a better fashion and he produces. But I’m also not holding my breath.

Pressures matter though. They leads to ints, incomplete passes, and sacks for other players. Pressuring the qb is always a good thing

You nailed it. He has all the talent in the world. Freakish size and ability. But has zero pass rush moves. Like how does he not learn anything else in the last 5 years?

Can we at least wait for him to play one game under the new DC?

For all we know (which is zero), racing up the field and leaving enormous escape lanes may have been part of Dennis Allen's scheme...?

I mean every advanced stat/analytics view values pressures way more than sacks. Sacks are a significantly more volatile stat that is dependent on a bunch of external factors.

Viewing sacks as the end all be all over pressures is like still thinking RBI is the most valuable and telling stat in baseball.

Like a quick trigger referee throwing a roughing the passer penalty on the cleanest of clean sacks which would've moved Carl Granderson from #7 to #2 in the category in the entire NFL

They should put a time limit on pressures then. If it’s after 2.8 seconds you don’t get credit for a “pressure”. A QB having 5 seconds and then a defensive lineman getting in his face shouldn’t give you a stat.

Can an appeal to the Elias Sports Bureau get the sack back?
quote:

Elias Sports Bureau reviewed a play involving Peyton Manning and confirmed that his 7-yard pass to Eric Decker would remain a forward pass, allowing Manning to finish the 2013 season with 5,477 passing yards, just one yard ahead of Drew Brees' previous record. This decision ensured that Manning's record for passing yards in a season would stand.

quote:

Peyton Manning set a single-season passing yards record in 2013, finishing with 5,477 yards. This total surpassed Drew Brees' previous record of 5,476 yards set in 2011. Manning's achievement was confirmed after a review of a specific play that could have altered his final yardage.

quote:

Play in Question: A 7-yard completion from Manning to Eric Decker was scrutinized. Some angles suggested it could be considered a lateral, which would not count as a passing yard.

quote:

Final Decision: The Elias Sports Bureau reviewed the play and upheld the original ruling of a forward pass. This decision allowed Manning to retain his record.

quote:

Significance of the Record Manning's record was notable not just for the yardage but also for the number of touchdowns he threw that season. He finished with 55 touchdown passes, extending his record beyond Tom Brady's previous mark. Manning himself expressed that he valued the touchdown record more, as it reflected the team's scoring ability.

quote:

This ruling by the Elias Sports Bureau ensured that Manning's record stood firm, solidifying his place in NFL history.
