Everyone knows it was wrong. The NFL has suggested it will explore the possibility of correcting the wrongness in the future.
Of course, a solution exists, and has worked — in Canada.
John Kryk of the Toronto Sun does a good job of explaining the CFL’s version or replay rules in this story, an idea which could have been of benefit to the Saints when an obvious and non-called pass interference penalty cost them a chance to advance to the Super Bowl.
In the CFL, coaches have the ability to challenge pass interference calls, with some limitations. Teams aren’t able to challenge the NFL equivalent of defensive holding near the line of scrimmage, but do have one challenge per game (as long as they have a timeout) which would apply to situations such as Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman whacking Saints receiver Tommyleee Lewis in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.

so being that there is a case study out there, there will 100% be a change going forward. doesn't make me feel any better though

It won't right the wrong, but it's probably the best we can realistically hope for.
Who knows though? The media loves a scandal and I'm hoping some journalists seeking to make a name for themselves keep the story alive long enough for the owners to decide Goodell is more trouble than he's worth.

sad that they got it right 5 years ago yet the NFL is still resisting, yet they claim they arent in on fixing games

Isnt Sean Payton on the competition committee?
Whose job it is to help enforce fairness?
Unless he is kicked off the committee theres no doubt this rule will be added.

Even changing the rule doesn't make up for it! With our luck, that rule change will bite us in the arse on down the line.

Automatic reviewing of potential targeting calls in college would have also saved the Saints. I think the non call on the helmet to helmet is the biggest blunder due to the NFL acting like they care so much about player safety.

This has nothing to do with changing the rules.
The only thing that saves the Saints as you put it, is to enforce the rules on the books.
There was a clear intent not to enforce the rules of the game.
The focus of any response should be why and who directed the intent exhibited by the refs.

Canada let's you review whatever you want I believe.
That is what needs to happen, especially if only for the post-season.. like how baseball expands their reviews.
If the Saints are allowed to challenge that call, they can see clearly the ball wasn't tipped, clearly there was helmet to helmet, and clearly it was PI.
They could not come of out that review and not make a call of some sort to get it right.
That's what has to be done. Keep 2-3 challenges, but let it be whatever you want to challenge.. Period.

I wouldn't doubt it. That would be some bitter irony, right there.
