If New Orleans receives Washington's third-round pick, then the Redskins will get a 2010 fifth-round pick back from the Saints.
so we give up a Pro Bowl Tackle and a draft pick for ONE Wash. draft pick? the frick?

saints lose a pro bowl LT and a 5th round pick only to get a possible 3rd back

that is what i hate about the trade most.. having to give back a pick only a couple rounds later..

How this is any better than just waiting for him to end his holdout and play his contract year is beyond me.

I don't hate the trade at all. Dude missed all of last season on IR, we drafted his replacement, and he doesn't want to be here, which means that if we keep him this year and he walks after the season, we get NOTHING for him. Keeping him on the roster as a backup (his holdout wouldn't have made it any easier for him to be a starter) certainly doesn't increase his trade value.
So they had to move him and accept what the market value is for him.

well if the plan all along was for him to move on and let Bushrod take his spot, why not work out a trade possibly during the draft when market value was up. Instead of waiting for him to not report his to camp and make public his discontent. That only drove his value down because other teams know he wants out.

Because he couldn't pass a physical then.

Like I said before, now we have an extra pick in either the 3rd or 4th that we can use to trade for a DT or LB then its like we gave up Brown for player X. And at the price stars are going for 3rd and 4th rounders we might get somebody really good.

They should have just kept JB for another year. We probably could have gotten a 4th or so in a compensatory pick, plus you've potentially got an All Pro LT out there instead of Bushrod, who is promising but not in the same league right now. What a dissapointment, I woke up and see PFT talking about Haynesworth for JB and I get ecstatic, now this is just another disappointment this offseason. The frontloaded Evans deal was fantastic, but the only move that actually improved this team was the Alex Brown signing. The drafting for the future + giving away a really good LT is a joke when you've got a legit shot at repeating.

What exactly do you all think the trade value of an OT coming off of IR is?

Lower than when he came off of 2 pro bowl seasons...bad planning

A third is about as much as we ever could have hoped for. If you're thinking otherwise you're just foolish.

'Soph'
+1
And we still have the guy who started SB 44.
Happy Fathers day to all involved.

Horrible trade for the Saints.
I'm not saying it's a great trade but there is no way they are paying Brown long term which means we'd lose him for nothing next year. I'm guessing this was the best offer we could get for him.

I like the trade.
We get a 3rd or a 4th rounder next year for a player who contributed NOTHING in 2009 and would ride the bench in 2010 all while collecting a checking a complaining.
Saints giving up a "problem with a salary" for better picks in 2011.
What's not to like about it.

giving up a 5th/6th also. in essence we are giving up Brown and a 6th for a fourth and possibly a 2012 6th. OR Brown and a 5th for a 3rd and possibly a 2012 6th.
That bastard best play 90% of the snaps.

If it looks like...feels like...and smells like Sh#t it must be sh#t certainly seems the consensus on the trade. But that same sentiment seems to be what the FO thought about his future as a player or trade bait.

We unloaded $3.6m of payroll and cut out the cancer, had to be a huge factor in this apparent crappy deal
