Since Brees is like Pele and knows where everyone is on the field at all times, why did he not throw that last pick to Meach in the far corner?

1) Was it the pressure in his face?

2) Did he want to squeeze it b/w 3 defenders?

3) Forgot about Meach on the far side?

I cant spell Meachamn/Meachem, so I will call him Meach.

Thoughts?

he rolled right and is too short to see over the defenders to notice Meach open on the left.

at least thats how I saw it.

He was trying to get it Graham it looked like. Seems like he might be forcing the issue there a little much.

This has been discussed in a few threads already.

Basically:
1) Brees is 6'0. Defenders are typically between 3 and 6 inches taller than he.

2) He was rolling to the right, that cuts the field down. QBs are not supposed to throw back across their body across the field, it almost always ends up a pick. Ask Brett Favre.

3) The play was designed to go to the right.

because he rolled to the right and only had one half of field to work with. you try rolling to the right and then throwing completely across your body to the left. it was a horrendous playcall. we shoulda used 4 wides and had everyone run a 3 yard hitch(remember the TD meach caught against houston in the EZ)? hard to defend in zone. We then shoula had sproles on a drag route across the middle in case it was man coverage. everybody and their mother knew we were NOT RUNNING when we were in the I formation. they knew it would be a PA rollout to the right. AND IT WAS! bad playcall.

Meachem has been pretty much nonexistent the last three weeks for the Saints.

They seem intent on getting the ball to Graham, which is fine... but dude... Meachem's not even getting on the field because of it.

He was so open that it looked like some O-linemen were pointing for Brees to throw it to him.

Throwing across the entire field is generally a no no.

I agree and if he would have an we did not get the touchdown / first down, I would have said, "try to cram it in to Jimmy Graham, he is 6'5 and a bball player".

- Monday Morning QB Extraodinaire.

well it wouldn't have been a pick, but it would have been a tough throw even for brees to make without, stopping and setting his feet....and he was being chased.

It is amazing to me as good as Brees sees the field that sometimes he misses wide open guys (busted coverage), but is the best at throwing them open.

My only problem with that play was if you are going to force it Graham why not throw it high. HE goes up and snags seemingly overthrown passes. Let him sky for it not go to the ground for it.

Go back & look at the replay. PT is in blocking but slips while doing so. He gets up off the turf, raises his hand for Drew but Drew never saw him. Pierre was in front of Drew, slightly to his left.

If he throws to Pierre there, I doubt Pierre scores but he would have been at least able to pick up the first down. Drew had locked in & had made up his mind to go to Graham there. That was a head scratcher because Drew usually sees the field so well. I really think not having Payton on the sideline hurt. I believe Payton would have reminded him if nothing was there to look for the check down to Pierre.

Running for your life in one direction and then throwing the ball 30 yds in the other direction is hard.
