We have had historically the worse defense ever, I think twice. How does this happen outside of terrrible personal decisions. Spags was the coach for one year and left and did well elsewhere.

Loomis, wtf, who made this mess?

we've had BAD personnel decisions that costed 100mil+ from 2012-2015.

Lofton and Hawthorne's heavy contracts
Bunkley's heavy contract
Byrd's heavy contract
Galette's restructure+cut
Poor drafting

that adds up and thus we ate crap for it the last couple years. It's playing handicap and a HOF QB couldn't do much to offset it.

well when you lose more than you win it crosses a lot of people's minds. No getting around that, bub.

If Payton and Benson will not purge the problems this will not be fixed. This season was an abortion when the Raiders went for 2 at the end. How much more can Benson take?

well I mean we have had a losing record since he signed his big deal.

Correlation is not causation. When Payton first came to the Saints 10 years ago we had a string of unusual slam dunk finds with great value. Jahri Evans, Carl Nicks, Pierre Thomas, Marques Colston through the draft. Great value trades with Jon Vilma and Jeremy Shockey. We had value free agent signings like Hargrove and Fujita. This great personnel acquisition hasn't been there for years. This is what is actually to blame.

the talent evaluation was poor for a few year but I think this past draft class has potential.

The talent evaluation has been pretty horrible for a while. We have 1 player left on the roster from the 2014 draft class for example. 2015 is looking fairly questionable in some ways with what is starting to look like misses on Anthony and Kikaha. There's always hope for the most recent classes because everything is still too early call. We'll see. I'm hoping for the best.

What should cross people's mind are things that actually, you know, make sense to a person who possesses the ability to reason and think critically... bub.

So you're not very educated on the status of the franchise and its salary cap, thats alright, you can probably still post shite online and no one will call you out.

Also, way the hell off. His cap hit was $17.25m. Are you maybe starting to see how your criticism is not based in reality? ...bub.

What free agent signings have we made in the past five years that lead you to believe our front office will turn the team around with a few more?

They've missed on quite a few, but they haven't been completely inept. The big name F.A. have sucked massively, but they've done a really good job with the lower paid guys.

Hightower, Snead, Kelemete, Fairley, Robertson, Stupar, Breaux, Sterling Moore, BW Webb. We shoud be better next year if the FO has a good offseason...like we did in 2016(with basically no money to spend).

Don't think this is the issue. They have paid up for defense. They just paid the wrong people. Galette, Byrd. Bad draft picks, Stanley Jean Baptiste. Etc. He also has signed a very team friendly deal this past year. Blaming a standard qb's contract has become a tired excuse.

This.

The salary cap has gone up quite a bit in the last five years. Brees' contract isn't hurting the franchise. Overpaying bad free agents (why would you sign Coby Fleener when you were already up against the cap and in bad need of defense?) and lots of dead money (don't forget C.J. Spiller) are the issue. Coach has to have every shiny new toy out there, and the GM can't keep from screwing the cap with terrible contracts.

Then maybe he should have restructured his contract like Tom Brady if he needs better players around him.

Can't have it both ways.

This needs to end in this offseason and I think Brees is saying this. Get rid of the buddy coaches, purge management, get new blood in. None of this is working now, fricking none of it.
