Mike Nabors Twitter

Is Brees pushing for a new head coach or defensive overhaul?

Mike Nabors context tweet hours later:
quote:

1h Mike Nabors? @MikeNabors To clarify Brees' comments he was talking about "his" career not his time with the #Saints but added "you don't always wanna say next year"

I don't blame him. We've wasted much of his career. I am thankful for that one ring but we should have at least one more.

Payton wasted Brees' career with shitty defense. 11 years and not one time did he have a dominant defense. Every year is a chase to overcome bad defensive play.

Why wasn't this year the year?

What will change between now and the start of next season that couldn't have changed last offseason?

Cap space. We cut a bunch of selfish guys that didn't fit so most of that dead cap is now gone.

hard to pay up for defense with the cash he's taking home.

it's a reality most NfL teams deal with.

and then when we have spent up for some defensive players (Byrd) for example, we haven't gotten the kind of return we hoped.

Corners can't stay healthy either.. combine that with a weak pass rush and its 7-9 galore.

Saints are 9-6 going into today if they win games they lost 16-13 and 16-11.

Saints were 6-6 and then he threw 0 TDs and 6 INTs in the next 2 games.

Knowing Brees, his comments were probably an advertisement for how the Microsoft Surface will help him improve in 2017.

1. Offensive line was a big question mark and they proved they can still play
2. Health (rankins and bureaux especially)
3. Mike Thomas is a year older and year smarter
4. Draft picks (hopefully someone opposite Jordan or a corner)
5. Team is just young. They will improve in house
I understand what you're saying, but the expectations were all time low this year and they came along after a shite start

I don't agree with that. I think we have drafted poorly, with arrogance and did a piss poor job in free agent signing and the result is crappy defense. And even worse, injured defensive players, separate issue.

Its a cultural problem. Payton knows offense but not a frickin thing about fielding a good defense. His whole, let's just swap out defensive coordinators hasn't been the answer. You can't change one person on the staff & expect the problem to be fixed. Doctors don't treat cancer by just trying to remove a portion of it. They have to remove all of it or the chances are high it returns & spreads. Joe Vitt & Bill Johnson are coaching cancers. Vitt has yet to develop a young LB in New Orleans. The defensive line was ok this season but for most seasons, they have underachieved. You don't force coordinators in the NFL to constantly have to coach with pre hand picked staffs especially when those retained coaches have such a poor history of developing players like Vitt & Johnson has.

So you're not very educated on the status of the franchise and its salary cap, thats alright, you can probably still post shite online and no one will call you out.

well I mean we have had a losing record since he signed his big deal.

and even before that our defense wasn't super elite. Even in the Super Bowl season they weren't good statistically. They just came up with clutch turnovers and even cashed in a few themselves for TD's.

the talent evaluation was poor for a few years too but I think this past draft class has potential.

No need to be so angry while still not answering the question, Mickey.

What free agent signings have we made in the past five years that lead you to believe our front office will turn the team around with a few more?

We have several reasons to not trust the front office at this point.

Don't think this is the issue. They have paid up for defense. They just paid the wrong people. Galette, Byrd. Bad draft picks, Stanley Jean Baptiste. Etc. He also has signed a very team friendly deal this past year. Blaming a standard qb's contract has become a tired excuse.
