this is the worst idea any saints fan has ever had.... what the frick are you thinking???? for one thing, we will never want to get rid of brees!!! he is perfect for our offense... secondly ... jay cutler is the biggest piece of shite... i cannot stand his whiny arse and he sucks as a qb... or at least he is way over rated in my opinion.

and frick marshall too while we're at it

bottom line... drew brees does not leave this town until he is retiring.... he has made this his team

Hell no !!!!! I will take Drew and Colston any day over those 2 nut jobs. We have the best QB in the game when it comes to a passing attack and when Colston is healthy he is unstoppable. Plus our 2 guys are stand up individuals. They make me proud to be a Saints fan. Cutler and Marshall would make me put the bag back on.

marshall = charges of assault on an officer, domestic violence charges, strip club fiend, anger management, DUI, more domestic disputes, numerous police house calls, oh and disorderly conduct as well as physically fighting with a fiance..

yeah, i'll definitely take mr. quiet colston over that dude.

oh & brees > cutler

cutler may be one of the better qb's in the nfl.. ( its really a down time as far as superior qbs go ) but he does not possess the leadership skills it would take to do what brees does in this offense.. and on this team. i truly don't believe cutler would be as successful running the new orleans saints as brees has been since he got here. brees belongs in this city; he's absolutely ideal for this organization. cutler not so much.

point is the decrease exists.
This is an incredibly false and misleading premise. By definition -- a drop will occur from a career high. But you won't know it's a career high until after the career is over.

So to say that "it's all downhill from here" for Brees is simply a guess conclusion drawn from incomplete data. The only fixed elements are that (1) Cutler is younger and (2) it's 1 player for 2. Everything else is your own "opinion."

But I don't think that he'll go for 4,500 mainly due to the new coaching staff....ie not because of his ability.
This just keeps getting dumber. In theory, every QB could throw for 4500 if only is coaching staff would let him. In theory, every QB in the league is physically capable of throwing ball frequently enough for enough yards to surpass 281.25 per game. The flip side is that every coaching staff could limit the QBs throws -- based on a number of factors -- and therefore prevent said QB from reaching that number.

First off, your drop off statistic is entirely misleading. If someone has their best year ever, of course their numbers are going to go down the following year. Otherwise, it wouldnt be their best year. Think about it, has anyone had their best year 5 times in a row?
Secondly, the article you posted is from 2006 and it is now 2009. Of course drew was considered a risk in 2006. While I do agree with the premise of the article that teams are much too quick to give a QB a boatload of money, that is the nature of the position. Not every swinging dick on the street will throw for 4000+ yards and 30 TDs. That is why they make the big bucks.
What signs have you seen from brees that makes you question his durability? In case you havent noticed, QBs can last a long time in the league as opposed to RB. Lets take your favorite statistic, Kurt Warner, who came into the league in 1994. He had been in the league for 15 years and is still considered an ample starter. Brees has only been in the league for 8 years.
Lastly, how do you think the team would react to trading off brees who is the unquestionable leader and heart of the locker room. do you think that would sit will with reggie and the 9 other guys on offense that drew has made look good for a few years now? do you think that cutler will be the guy to lead shockey back to 2005 numbers and make washed up receivers into probowlers?

and when would be the best time to sell an asset? Just after it's highest production, or wait a year or two til the numbers level off and people start looking at age as a concern?

But the sentiment here is to ride him to the grave, fine.

But can we put a monetary value on the offer?

What's the market value of a:

QB with 5,000 yds (34TDs)=
QB with 4,700 yds (27TDs)=
WR with 1,250 yds (6TDs)=

what's the likelihood of each player replicating those numbers?

You might have a point if you were talking about Ladanian Tomlinson two years ago. But it is not unusual for QBs to be productive into their late 30s. Even if they reach their statistical peak early in their careers, it does not follow that their "values" will decrease -- if at all -- in subsequent seasons.

Again, your premise is flawed.

You're going to bring up the shoulder again, but the man hasn't missed a game in three years. OBTW, Cutler has.

I now must end my participation in this thread because it is obvious you're messing around.

Kashonly...look at the names on this list...You are saying that all of the quaterbacks had a spike in production after theie career years. But the most important thing that you forgot was that all of them except Marino has won a SUPERBOWL!!! Bress has come to New Orleans and has become an Icon to a community that has been through some very rough times and that is something that Cutler could never bring to the table

this isnt the freakin stock market
this is the nfl, and drew brees is in the prime of his career, and ( on paper) will be playin with the best saints team ( better defense) ( hard to improve on the NUMBER 1 OFFENSE,) he has played with since he has been here.....
this is comical...
this entire topic

hahah " hey lets trade THE DREW BREES, for a convict, and a DIABETIC cry baby girl" lol yea i see your logic....

Jay Cutler confirmed late Sunday that he will not report to offseason training on Monday and has formally requested a trade from the Broncos.
Cutler emerged from the weekend's meeting with Josh McDaniels feeling the rookie coach "made it clear he wants his own guy (at QB)," and "said he wasn't sorry about (trying to trade for Matt Cassel)." "How can I trust him now?," Cutler added. Cutler did say he'll attend any mandatory offseason work if he stays on the roster, but believes that "really, it's best for me to move on."

Anyone who thinks that Drew will put up top 5 numbers please acknowledge it now.....that is before his arm goes out.
