“Ride with Brees until the wheels fall off, he’s our goat and deserves to retire a Saint”

Brees chokes against Brady in the playoffs..

“Let’s hold off on drafting a QB, Jameis and dalton are good enough for this great defense”

Sean “retires” just so he doesn’t have to work with those bums.

“Carr is the best available, we don’t need to start over. We have to try to win for the Vets”

Carr is just as bad as he’s always been. Salary cap is completely trashed. Zero hope for the future.

The majority of this board wanted Carr

Carr was a top five NFC QB this year. Until he got injured he had the 3rd best QB rating behind Goff and Darnold. Mayfield, Hurts, and Daniel’s just passed him with recent weeks success.

He was 5-5 as a starter, with close losses to Phi, Atl, LAR, and a bad loss to Car when the team quit on Allen.

A healthy OL and and three defensive stops gets him to 9-1 as a starter.

He’s not the problem.

He was chunked out the door after contacting (through his agent) the Miami Dolphins.

We didn't have a lot to choose from after Loomis decided to keep the band going and keep kicking the can. The majority here wanted a fresh rebuild and thats just a fact. You can understand why Loomis chose as he did without having to like it.

Aw that is sad.

This board was dead set against drafting a QB during the final years of Brees career. Their reasoning was to get Drew more weapons despite the obvious signs that his mobility & arm strength was decreasing. The correct move in that timeframe would have been to draft a QB so that a young QB on a rookie deal would have given the organization flexibility to transition Drew's contract off the books.

quote:

Brees chokes against Brady in the playoffs..

Brees didn't choke. He was simply limited physically. The team was able to win regular season games to make the playoffs against teams with equal or lesser talent yet the dink & dunk offense got exposed because of Drew's limitations. Tampa was able to focus on the dump offs & intermediate throws Brees was only capable of making. The Bears had even did it the week prior. It just so happened that the Bears & Mitch Trubusky had an even shitter offense than the Saints did.

“Let’s hold off on drafting a QB, Jameis and dalton are good enough for this great defense”

This board & site overall is always great for some shite takes.

I'm honestly starting to feel that Sean wanted out because he & Loomis were butting heads about what to do with Brees as he physically declined & possibly going forward with a complete rebuild. The organization went through a slight rebuild from 2013-2017 as the team transitioned from the original pieces that lead to the early success in the Payton/Brees era. That rebuild was easier because you still had the main franchise piece in Brees yet after the No Call loss, a rebuild would become much more complex since Brees himself was declining physically.

It's obvious now that Loomis is stubborn & would have been against a complete rebuild based on his comments after the firing of Dennis Allen. Payton probably saw the writing on the wall. It's also obvious that Payton wouldn't have had a problem going through a cap cleansing & complete rebuild since he had to do just that in Denver. He had to completely transform the Broncos roster year 1 & is now starting a rookie QB. Payton probably also has more input with Broncos GM George Paton than he did with the Saints. After years of pushing the limits of the cap, it's easy to see now that Loomis is going to do what Loomis wants to do. He thinks he knows it all.

“Carr is the best available, we don’t need to start over. We have to try to win for the Vets”

We had a career loser in Dennis Allen recruit another career loser in Carr to come to Nola. Anyone with any sense could see what was about to happen. Loser + Loser + Loomis = Losing

We need Loomis to attend a second line in the hood.

That was the case, Gayle doesn't let him use her jet to go vacation in Mexico to unwind & weigh his options before he "retired". The Chiefs jumping him in 2017 to get Mahomes possibly started taking the wind out of his sails in New Orleans & Loomis' stubbornness was probably the final nail in the coffin.

As a poster said earlier CSP probably was growing tired of butting heads with Loomis and began looking for a out. Loomis has proved then and now to be stuck in his ways.

Considering how Payton got rid of vets quickly in Denver, this whole keep aging vets was Loomis, not Payton.

Exactly. Payton is a proven winner & great offensive mind. Many were saying that he wasn't shite without Brees yet he's transformed the Broncos in 2 seasons, is winning games & is in the process of developing a really good young QB. On the other hand, what has Loomis accomplished without Payton? Not a frickin thing pre or post Payton. Loomis is the albatross around the franchise neck. Sean has the Broncos on an incline with a bright future while Loomis is the reason the Saints organization is a rudderless ship headed into a dark abyss.

Payton learned it from Parcells. Same goes for Belichick.

I'm willing to go a step further. Since Loomis is so loyal to vets & refuses to move on from them, could Payton have wanted to move up a few spots in the 2017 draft to get Mahomes yet he couldn't get Loomis to get on board?

It's really not hard to believe when you consider that Payton has mentioned numerous times since that draft that he had Mahomes rated the highest prospect ever in the time he had been apart of the draft process. He even told Brees, as Brees passed through the war room with some guests that the team was probably taking a QB with the 1st pick.

If Payton felt that highly of Mahomes, he certainly felt Mahomes was worth moving up to secure yet ultimately any trade deal & approval would have had to have been finalized by Loomis. Loomis loyalty to vets especially one like Brees wouldn't allow such a trade because of how it would look to the public & the fanbase. It just seems now that Payton bringing up the topic could have been a subliminal frick you, I told you so towards Loomis since KC ultimately jumped the Saints & Mahomes early success in the NFL. By then, Brees is broken down, the relationship between Payton & Loomis is fractured & Payton says I'm not dealing with this bullshite anymore. Sorry Gayle but peace, I'm out.

That alone has very little to do with what is happening now. And everyone wanted the Saints to draft an actual QB who could be an heir apparent to Brees, it just didn't happen. SP tried to play off Tasom as that guy but he was never going to be the starting QB of a playoff-caliber team.

Did anyone with a lick of common sens ever really say that?

The bums he signed off on and sometimes advocated for?

Again, who was saying this?

The original voidable contract was not a bad deal and probably a good flyer to take on a guy most of the league considered better than his stats because of the team he played on. That may still be true But he looks kind of like a bum to me.

The problem is that from 2018 on, there were very few QBs that panned out that were available for the Saints.

2018 - Could have gotten Lamar Jackson. Trading up for Davenport was a clear disaster move.
2019 - No good QBs in the draft at all.
2020 - Missed on Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts
2021 - Lawrence is the only decent QB in the draft.
2022 - Obviously Brock Purdy is here, but no one saw that coming, and it is very likely only a success because of Shannahan.
2023 - Still too early to tell if any later picks will pan out.
2024 - Jury is still out, but 6 QBs were taken before the Saints picked.

Saints could have just tanked in 2021/2022 and been potentially around for Stroud or one of the QBs taken last draft.

I’m pissed that Carr is conveniently “hurt” right now just so he can’t lose to all 32 teams.

Clown Carr!
