I had forgotten he was even on the team. Why would he want a release? Is there demand for him on other teams?

Probably not, but there is a better chance for demand for him now as opposed to after he gets cut during the preseason and all the QB2 & QB3 jobs are taken.
Winston is QB1, Dalton will be QB2, and you have to assume Book will be QB3 bc he can sit on the PS.
