If they could somehow play every year, I think the Saints/Cowboys could be becoming a good rivalry.

Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, I considered the 49ers to be our main rival. However, I doubt many 49ers fans thought of the Saints as much of a rival.

Then for a few years there, the Saints and Rams were building a nice rivalry. Obviously the re-alignment of the divisions destroyed that dynamic.

Personally, I would consider the Panthers games to be our biggest games of the year, since we seem to have a problem beating them as of late.

I've always thought that the Saints/Bills rivalry was intense.

I am considering heading up there for the game but am worried about getting scalded by overzealous, Saints-hating Bills fans

The Saints/Niners rivalry was sqashed once they re-aligned the conference but back in the late 80's when the Saints were finally starting to play some ball that series boiled my blood.

Well, regardless of the past, I have a feeling the Saints/Falcons games this upcoming season are going to be epic...and will decide the NFC South. December 13...can't wait

Saints vs. Falcons is the biggest rivalry.

That being said, I think Saints fans felt the 49ers were our biggest rivalry in the 80's because we either got slaughtered 46-6 or it was a 9-6 game.

I hated the fact that we played the 49ers in the 80's and 90's when they were awesome and not Tampa when they sucked, but when Tampa got good and the 49ers started to suck we switched them out. Come on NFL, give us Saints fans a break.

i've been a Saints fanatic since i was a fetus....when i was growing up in the 80's, by far, the biggest and nastiest rivalry around was us vs. the Niners....first it was Montana throwing touchdown passes to Rice then after Joe was dealt to the Chiefs, it was Young's turn to shatter our dreams for awhile....it was a terrific rivalry to watch, if you're a Niners fan....but for Saints fans, it's almost tough to think back to all those close games we lost to Montana or Young's 4th quarter heroics....i know one thing, Montana and Young to this day speak very highly of the ole Saints defense of the 80's and 90's, particularly the Dome Patrol.....

Opponent ----------------------W -L -T- W-L% Tm Opp
Atlanta Falcons --------------35 44 0 .443 1565 1715
St. Louis Rams --------------29 38 0 .433 1342 1509
San Francisco 49ers ------23 45 2 .341 1261 1691
Tampa Bay Buccaneers---20 14 0 .588 669 633
Carolina Panthers ----------12 16 0 .429 515 587

I can't say I liked the 34% win pct against SF. I always thought, and still wonder, what those 80's teams might have done if they weren't in the same division with THE team of the 1980's.

Rams had the old school history and some more recent shootouts.

Bucs always tough, glad they're in the same division. Hoping the regime there will bring an era of futility.

Carolina always seems like tight games but they never had the rivalry pizazz cept for Jake to me.

Guess it's gotta be the dirty birds then- seeing that both teams were born within a year of each other, the geographic proximity, and longevity of playing each other. Hebert and Anderson going there fueled the fire some too. Maybe Rod Coleman as comeback player of the year with 10 sacks might help too.

believe me, Saints/Niners was a rivalry....wish i could take a poll asking Saints fans born at least by 1980 if it was a rivalry....betcha at least 90% of them would say it was....yeah the Niners beat our asses most of the time, like i already said, but Saints fans who remember those days will tell you they absolutely despised the Niners, not only for always beating us but it just seemed like they took extra pride in beating our asses and got great joy out of it.....it was the opposite those days..it seemed like our offense held us back from becoming an elite team...the Niners, of course, had an elite offense and defense and coaching....but we hung with them tight on a lot of contests and Steve Young says that the Dome Patrol was the greatest set of linebackers ever....it was a heated yet lopsided rivalry...these two teams hated each other before the reallignment...
