I acknowledge that Gayle was a big part of the last few years, and I have hope she will be a great owner for us moving forward.

However, you're just a miserable person, aren't you?

Benson oversaw the best Saint years ever. Dome Patrol, 2000, and the Sean/Drew era

He kept basketball in NO. He has invested millions back into the city and by all accounts has attempted to leave us with a long term commitment with Gayle.

Dude is literally Mr. Scrooge in my eyes from a Christmas Carol. He turned his life around and I cherish and remember him as the man he spent his final years being.

Some of These posters need Jesus or Weed.

Bottom line, he didn’t relocate the team and he won a Super Bowl. That other stuff is just static

This. There are always haters, and they are always part of the problem, not the solution.

the poster came in here spouting off some nonsense about Benson leading a revitalization of the city after Katrina. while that may have been the case eventually, from the utter beginning and until months had passed after the storm, it was not the case and was the opposite. Benson dodged the media and had an utter meltdown in tiger stadium, attacking a reporter who asked questions and then fighting with the league commissioner. that is not leading a revitalization effort.

I really don't care, because I like Benson and understand that business is business. I only brought up the topic because of the revisionist history brought up in the beginning of this thread. I would have been fine if the poster said that Benson was great for New Orleans. That is 100% true. But he spouted off some nonsense about Benson's ownership revitalizing the city after Katrina, specifically, Katrina. like what??

Benson thought the city was not coming back immediately after Katrina. This is a thought many from NOLA had. He explored his options but once Tagliabeau (sp?) said you aren’t moving Benson bought back into New Orleans 100%.

Which is completely fine. I'm not the one saying that Benson spearheaded a revival of New Orleans after Katrina, when he didn't. Nor am I pissed that he didn't lead a revival. I'm saying Benson was great for the city while calling out the bullshite.

Everyone should be saying Benson was great, while no one should be mentioning Katrina in that same sentence and implying that his ownership led a rebirth

I was pissed when they tore down Robert E Lee, I'm sure Benson was too. I think it would be a great honor to have Benson up there.

I just hope Bitch Landrieu doesn't do this as a political move...I'm sure he will though, oh well. Win one for the Gipper!

Ask anyone who lived in New Orleans during and after Katrina if the Saints helped lead the rebirth and you will get a yes. Benson has to get some credit for that. He has also donated millions to schools and causes in the city. While Benson/Saints arent the sole reason he does deserve to be in the conversation.
