I could solidly get behind this.
The Saints under his ownership played a crucial role in revitalizing the city after Katrina.

There's still gonna be some SJW's bitching because he was a white guy who was the "owner" of a bunch of black players.

now is not the time for me to comment, but I think you're forgetting a key chapter (or two) of the story

He is, but to also be fair, once the decision was made that the Saints would return, Benson has done nothing but buy up things around NOLA and try to make them better. I think the man more than earned our respect and forgiveness for the one blemish of his ownership.

This thread is haillarious.
And Benson threatened to move the team more than once. And our broke arse state paid him on many occasions to keep the team here. So there are many blemishes.
Besides if you name it Benson Circle you won’t be able to name it Gleason Circle.

Looking past the fact that Benson only bought the Saints in the first place because Mecom was about to sell them to parties that were going to move them out of state, he is responsible for:
The Saints
The Pelicans
Champion Square
Benson Tower
Dixie Beer
Tons of money to Tulane and Loyola - Tulane's new on-campus stadium
Tons of money to other schools
Tons of money to cancer research
Tons of money to the Catholic church
Tried to bring minor league baseball to NOLA before the Zephyrs, owned the Voodoo at one point
Although he never actually did it, I remember Drew remarking on one occasion that he and Mr. Benson had discussed the possibility of jointly purchasing the Times-Picayune when it was in danger of folding a few years back. I don't really know how anyone can argue that Benson didn't more than make up for his mistakes after 2005. The man spent the last 13 years of his life pouring money back into New Orleans and its community. We can all remember him fondly, the old kook.
Once a Saint, always a Saint. Benson-boogie on, brother.

When he may not have fully realized what he was doing that whole time. Respect Gayle for most of that.
