They won't/can't. They suffer from what I used to call the "Bama Syndrome". So as an example, when I was at 'Bama, we sucked but EVERY comeback most of our fans had was "Well we have more national titles than you"... because most were un-imaginative and we sucked.
Every time a Saint fan brings up the Super Bowl to me, I just start talking about when my HS baseball team won the GA State Championship back in the late 90's. It's just as relevant to the current season as the Saints 2009 Championship...

You play to win Super Bowls. We will always be proud of our New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl victory. But nobody, not one person, is saying that has any bearing on this season. Now bringing up how bad a certain team was in a particular area in any past season has no bearing either, especially when you have a new DC, new scheme, and a scheme that better fits the players on your roster. Add that to the fact that, with the exception of a couple of elite defenses, almost every teams' defensive ranking fluctuates considerably from one year to the next. Please tell me you're not too ignorant to see that.
