Ben Johnson or bust.
What would your selling points be?
Literally the only thing I can think of that we would offer over another franchise is extra time. The guy has a young family with 3 kids and no ties to New Orleans. I doubt he would even take an interview with his options.

Ben Johnson will demand all the power of the GM.How many HCs who
have had that authority have been highly successful. You can count them on 1 hand. The Saints need to hire a great GM and let him do the job of taking
out the trash. The best one we had was Jim Finks a no nonsense GM
who knew talent on the field and off.

Loomis would never do this but the next coach should be a David Culley type who stands in as a placeholder while you shed cap and accumulate picks for a year or 2, then you get an actual coach.

Offer everything you can to Ben Johnson, and when he says no, offer more.
This is the only option.

I don't think a decent up and comer would take this job.

We will have two choices: a guy that isn't on a lot of teams radar that we have to take a chance on, or a retread

No shot Gayle does this.

You won’t get any of the top candidates

What about Mike Vrabel at HC and Andy Kotelnicki as OC?

Which means just roll DA again. Aaron Glenn is about the best you can do, but if he sucks too we’re stuck 3 years.
The only hope is Gayle gets some advice out of the building and actually listens to tear it down and clean the cap next 3 years.
Loomis can’t tear it down because it means he wasted last 4 years kicking the can and admitting a mistake. Narcissists do not have that ability.
Which leaves the only conclusion of a chance, sell the fricking team Gayle and go play with your horses and drink fine wine with priests.
