Wow that says a lot. So about half his sack production the last two years came on gimmie sacks
I member when we attempted to discount Myles Garrett’s college sacks. Worked well

He left the LSU football team — his own decision, his father said — for about four months, taking a leave of absence for what the school termed “personal reasons.”
The reasons remain a mystery. No one will comment on them publicly, something that’s led to speculation and rumor. Arden Key Sr. declined to specifically address them Friday. Key Jr. has been unavailable for interviews this fall.
“Let the past be the past,” Key Sr. said. “All those rumors are going to surface through his career. As a family, we had challenges and we worked through them, and we’re still working through them.”
His son’s issues evolved from his “instant success” in football, he said. It resulted in Arden Jr.’s life becoming unbalanced.
“It was time to take time away from football,” Key Sr. said. “He lost himself. He had so much success early. All the pressures of being a student-athlete. We forget he’s still a kid trying to balance life out. It was all coming down on him.”
His son spent his time away from football at home, Arden Key Sr. said, staying with his mother in Atlanta. He “reconnected” with the family, removing himself from that bright spotlight.
quote:
He almost lost the game, his father says.
“I never thought his football career was in jeopardy, but he needed to take time so it wouldn’t put his career in jeopardy,” his dad said.

Again, give me something concrete on Key. Even after the combine all we heard was he interviewed impressively.
Lol
The scouting departments & NFL coaches know. That's all what matters. They have done their homework.
quote:
LSU edge rusher Arden Key said that he was "star-struck" when he shook the hand of San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch.
"He was calm in the meeting room, trying to get to know me, very dialed in and looking at me in the eye the whole time," Key said. The 6-foot-5, 238-pounder called the San Fran duo of Lynch and HC Kyle Shanahan "impressive." How NFL teams are viewing Key, however, is less certain. The edge rusher said that when speaking at the combine, squads were "blown away" by his explanation for a leave of absence which he took from LSU last spring. That can be read for better or worse. Definitely for worse, Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline has been hearing that Key "left a bad taste" with his interviews and that he's been sliding down draft boards.
quote:
Draft insider Tony Pauline reports LSU edge rusher Arden Key "left a bad taste" in the mouths of teams at the NFL Combine.
Pauline says Key continues to "drop down draft boards" after not participating in the 40 or bench press. Who knows how Key performed in meetings with NFL teams, but that likely was the focus of his week since he had many questions to answer. Key did come in at a favorable playing weight at 238 pounds.

That tells me nothing Brody. We do know this; he was open about his problems and interviewed well.
We know his pass rushing coach thinks he's better than Gregory, who you keep trying to compare him to.

let me know when you're ready to bet against him going in the 1st round or if you're still scared.
He's falling on draft boards, i dont see him in any top 50 lists, or any 1st Rd mocks. This is easy money for you. I care to bet on his 2017 tape.

Those are Key's words, not the words of coaches or GMs. Try again Less Tard.

I've been following the draft for a long time. I'm not stupid. All it takes is one sucker to think they can "fix" Key & he gets taken at the back end of 1st round like Reuben Foster. Or teams can pass over him until later like Tyrann Mathieu, Randy Gregory or Tim Williams. There are teams out there with executives who have no business running a football franchise who don't understand that character matters. Those are the type of organizations who would take such a risk. I've seen this same story too many times before.

so you're not willing to bet against these "facts" that you keep ragging him for?

Lol Rappaport basically tweeted Key's comments when he questioned by the media about his interviews.
quote:
“I tell ’em the real,” he said of his meetings with NFL teams. “I tell them that was my biggest adversity. I went through it and I passed it, and I’m looking forward.”
Key said that teams have been receptive to his explanation.
“They respond in a good way,” Key said. “I surprised a lot of them. ‘Cause a lot of them don’t know what happened. I tell them what happened. I tell them what I played a part in, and they’re surprised. They’re blown away.”
Yet when asked by the media for specifics on his leave of absence.
quote:
“No comment,” he said when directly asked.

Facts? I see a bunch of opinions from you, no facts.

The only facts I’ve presented have to do with comparisons to Tim Williams & Gregory. Which I posted about & you couldn’t dispute.
And I guess you can throw in the disingenuous stat about not being able to beat tackles which is easily debunked by simply watching the highlight tape I posted. Why battle tackles when you can run by them? We both know where his 2016 tape will get him drafted

Yes because mocks are never, ever wrong.
quote:
LSU edge rusher Arden Key was "the biggest disappointment" of the 2017 season, according to one NFL executive that spoke with Daniel Jeremiah.
"He needs to gain the trust of the decision makers. When right, he's a special talent," a different executive said. This might be simplifying it, but the Combine could place Key firmly in the first round or force him in the second or third round tier due to concerns. We've seen both happen for prospects in the past.
quote:
The MMQB's Albert Breer "really" thinks LSU edge rusher Arden Key drops out of the first round.
We've said the same, as right now there are far more questions around Key's game than answers, and that typically scares a number of teams. Key was great in 2016, but as soon as that season ended things became cloudy. Key had shoulder surgery and spent time away from the team. He then missed a few games while recovering and totally changed his playing weight.

Even more reason to bet me. Surely you have $50 laying around

Just my two cents...but I've yet to see the "highlight tape" that included the player being blocked. Or anything other than his "highlights", for that matter.

You’ll have to be more descriptive on what you are talking about
Posted on 3/25/18 at 3:47 pm to BigBrod81
quote:
Precautionary my arse. Key's running buddy was WR Jazz Ferguson. Jazz got the ax out of the LSU program for his actions, Key didn't. The only difference is Key produced on the field but it was off of talent alone, Jazz didn't. Key obviously worked to get his weight down last season. That's not the issue. The issue is his behavior & lack of work ethic that lead to his "absence" & weight gain to begin with.
Lmao you have no idea what you’re talking about. When you say a guy has a lack of work ethic, yet he’s been working out with a private pass rush specialist on his own for years... that doesn’t exactly fit the claim.

Game film from 2017 against Bama. Key things to watch or notice.
Effort and pursuit
Attacking the pulling OL, closing the gap
Setting the edge
QB pressure(hand usage and snap get off)

How did he play against Miss State and Troy? Not that well.
He has questions! Nobody has answers. Nobody knows if he will get it together or be a bust. Anyone who says they know is wrong and is just betting because they don’t know. He has all the talent in the world, but to say he’s a sure thing based on his past behavior is wrong.
As for pundits, we should all know we can’t trust them in the draft process. So many lies and smokescreens this time of year. I could see him going 15 or 16.
